Hi! I am new to this forum and just posted to the introductions. I am planning on HSing my DD (6) and my DD1 (4) starting in July. I have been planning on using the FIAR curriculum for DD (6), and am wondering if I should also have DD (4) work along with us, albeit doing less complex work, and just less work overall, or should I start her on BFIAR. For some background, DS is currently in public 5K and doing fairly well. He is reading and attempting to write in sentences. DD1 is currently in a small church preschool 4 days a week. She is working on letters, but is nowhere near reading yet. She will be 5 in October. I like the idea of them both doing FIAR (the curriculum says ages 4-8), but wanted to know if any of y'all had experiences with this. TIA!
Hi! Welcome! I can't really comment on the curriculum because I am not familiar with it, however my kids are about the same age ds 6 (jan. b-day) and dd is 4 (also jan. b-day). Starting next year I do plan on working with them both in certain subjects.... I like the idea of being able to do some work together (maybe social studies, science and foreign language) and then working one on one in other subjects.
Hi and welcome. I'm new too. I used FIAR for the first few years and loved it. It is very easy and gentle(kid wise) and relaxed with little prep (parent wise). I can not imagine that your 4 yr will not be able to do FIAR with the 6y old. Other than some of the reading and writing that you seem to have planned, your 4y will be fine. She will probably be upset if you try and leave her out of it. Don't forget to look at their web site and message boards. They have great message boards and a wonderful support system set up for families that use FIAR.
I think your youngest would do fine with FAIR. We did BFAIR way back in '06 and I didn't want to continue with FAIR. Now I am trying not to start my son on his stuff yet and just picked up FAIR vol.1 from the library. I personally like some of the stories listed for vol. 1. I plan on doing a few books from FAIR for this month. www.homeschoolshares.com or www.homeschoolshare.com has stuff that goes with some of the FIAR stuff. I just don't remeber if it has a S or not. I am still adding to my favorites list since I am soley on my laptop now and dont have it saved on here yet.
