Can someone out there tell me about Pay Pal? I'm set up to make payments, but I've never sold anything. Do I have to sign up special to have people make payments to me? Do they charge me when I accept payments? I tried navigating their site, but got all the more confused. So any advice would be appreciated! THANKS!!!

Jackie, if someone is paying with Paypal, it is free for you to receive the money and then have it transferred into the bank account you have attached to your Paypal account.

They will only charge you if someone tries to pay you with a credit card and for that you need a premium Paypal account anyway (unless you plan to become a merchant you wouldn't need it).

The best way to do it is by putting it right in your auction "Paypal only". Many people do their auctions that way these days because it's so easy to set up Paypal accounts, that most people shopping on eBay already have them.

Thanks! I don't do auctions; this is HomeschoolClassifieds, but the idea's the same. So they can send the money (non-credit card) to my e-mail address, and that's it. No charge to me, no charge to them. That sounds cool! (YES! I CAN do this!!! LOL!)

When you transfer your $$ from pay pal to your own acct. is when you incur fees from pay pal, that is how they stay in business.

It really depends on what type of account you have. If it's a personal and you CAN"T accept credit cards there are no fees to receive. if it's anything else there will be fees on any incoming transaction.

If you transfer out to a bank account there are no fees. The only fees come from them sending you a check which is a basic processing fee.

OK, now I'm confused. So I sold this book, and the person sent me $15. That went into my Pay Pal account, NOT to my bank (which is where the money I pay people comes from)? So it STAYS in my Pay Pal account? That means that when I go to buy a book from someone, the money in that account is taken FIRST?

Yes, the money will stay in your paypal account, unless you transfer it to your bank account. I don't remember what the fee to do that is. Back when I sold stuff on ebay, I got a Paypal debit card for easier access to the money. I could use it just like a regular debit card.

OK, that might actually work better. I usually pay for my school stuff using Pay Pal, and the only stuff I'll be selling will be school stuff. So that way, the money I get for selling books will actually be spent on books. Thanks for clarifying for me!
