Hi. I am new to homeschooling. I am looking for a complete curriculum for 11th and 12th grades for my daughter. College Prep is very important to us. We have been researching Laurel Springs, Bridgeway?, and looked at K12. I am pretty confused right now and just want to find the best program out there for my daughter as well as one that can help walk us through the process. Again, we have never done this before. Thanks for any help that you can offer.
So you want to have her do an on-line school, basically? There are some, but I'm not familiar with them; others on here will be. My oldest is currently 9th grade, so I can tell you about individual subjects, but not about an over-all program.
You might check some groups specifically geared for hs'ing high school. Yahoo groups like - homeschooling2college and hshs and hs2coll are good. They can give lots of advice on online providers and on creating your own transcript for college. You can either go with a complete online high school experience. Pick certain courses online and vary the providers. Do some online and design the rest yourself. Or, go for it all on your own and do the whole thing. For serious college prep, you might google Stanford EPGY online high school. Pricey, but with good financial aid, extremely rigorous. K12 has a good rep., but it seems I've heard iffy things about Bridgeway and I'm not sure about Laurel Springs. It is easier than you think to design your own. You can even use some free resources and get some pre-planned courses. www.courserepository.org, www.hippocampus.org, and MIT OCW highlights for high school will all have course materials, textbook titles, etc. to build your own. You might look at homeschoolbuyersco-op.com for good buys on individual courses from suppliers like Thinkwell (math, science, economics) and CyberEd (science). You can also build courses around Teaching Co. dvds, www.teach12.org. These courses rotate being on sale so never pay full price! Good luck, come back and ask more specific questions as you narrow down what you want.
Switched on Schoolhouse would be online/computer done - it does the grading. http://aophomeschooling.com There are a lot of choices - just depends on what you would like to do.
Do you want Christian or Secular materials? That would matter in what is recommended. It's funny, we can recommend, but it depends on your child's interests and abilities and strong and weak points as to what would work best. I say it's funny, because I've heard decent things about Laurel Springs and Bridgeway, and negative things about K12--opposite of what mom2ponygirl said! Let us know a little more info. and we can better recommend.....
If you want more a textbook style there is also: http://www.greatbooksacademy.org/ and they have a literature course which is eligible for ACE college credits.
http://www.sascurriculumpathways.com/ Just saw this, it is free! It looks very interesting grades 8-12, English, History/Social Studies, Science, Math, and Spanish
I use Christian Liberty Academy for all my kids. I have one in K, 3, 5 & 7th this year but my older girls graduated from CLA. You might want to check them out & they also get a diploma from them as well & they transfer your grades to colleges for you if you use the full program. I have been more than happy with them. Their site is homeschools . org
CLA is cheap too. They print many of their own materials, so they can supply it for cheaper. I used them my first year of homeschooling, and have sued some of their stuff off and on over the years.
