can you se fresh peas for this soup? I have never made pea soup and we have a ham bone and hubby wants to try this. I want to toss it into the crockpot for tomorrow. Also was else can I add to it?
Not sure if it would turn out the same or not. Split Peas are small & flat like lentils. Guess you could try it & see how it turned out with regular peas in it though might be good. If you go to allrecipes they have several recipes for split pea soup.
I don't think it would turn out the same (I am not saying it would be bad; that I don't know. It would just not be the same.) Frozen peas are not going to blend into the soup like split peas. Split peas cook into a mush. Even if you tried to put the peas in a blender, you'd have the little pea skins in the soup that I think make an unpleasant texture.
well it's in the crockpot and smells good. I am surprised that it does. Like I said, I never had this so I am nervous. I was gonna make it for Tuesday with it being St. Patty's day but hubby was home for the day (worked night that day) so today is our Green day. We are having green pancakes for lunch and green soup for dinner I bought the dried peas for the soup.
So, how was it? I have a hard time finding ham hocks around here, so we have a split pea and sausage soup that we really like.
