    Hi
I'm having a difficult time teaching my kids how to tie their shoes. It's weird because I can be so calm and collected when helping my son with math, but when it comes to tying shoes I find myself getting soooo frustrated with him! My dd I have a bit more patience with, but not much. Any good advice on how to teach tying shoes?

I was in total *itch mode after the 100000th time of trying with my son.......... let them watch the episode from the cartoon Aurther.......... that seams to do the trick....... it may be at the library.

My oldest can tie his shoe but never seams tight enough....... I am constantly telling him to tie his shoe so I want VELCRO next time---- even if they are old man shoes.

Do you have a nice little pre-teen girl handy? I have found that they can work wonders with such situations. Our pre-teen of choice was Carly. She taught my kids to tie shoes, ride a 2-wheel bike, swim and roller blade.:D

Tanner just this year learned to tie his shoes...he's in first grade. It's a hard thing to teach them. Tanner even has superb small motor control, so when I thought it came time to tie, I thought he'd get it. Boy was I wrong. He finally just took it upon himself one day and did it. He still has issues getting it tight, but at least he has the ability to tie them.

Thank you all for the advice!
Come to think of it I had a pre-teen /teenager teach me when I was 4 1/2 or 5. I remember who it was and where I was standing even.
My son is 8, so you would think he would be ready for tying shoes, but I swear the kid is all thumbs! My dd who is 5 can get the first part of tying down, but the loops get her.

    We buy velcro or zippers..lol

We beat our heads on the wall forever with Garrett.. he was in first grade before they were even close to getting them tied adequetly... so we won't even go there with the little ones yet.. although Rylee did just ask to learn, I'm not sure I'm ready to teach

Grace is 6 and can't tie her shoes either. I have tried and tried to show her and she has the basic idea but just can't do it yet.

I've been working with my dd5. She has the concept, but drops the lace when she has to pull it through.

    Here's a site that teaches non-conventional methods.

I am loving all the ideas. My oldest is almost 8 and he just doesn't get it. I dropped it for awhile and found another pair of velcro shoes, but it is a skill he needs to learn sometime so it is nice to have suggestions of how to teach it.
