Hi all. I'm a SAHM to Tommy 4, Courtney 8, Mikey9 & Katie 17. Katie is in public school and will be off to college next year! In the past I've only done preschool at home. However I'm a little concerned about our public school. Katie (high school), is an advanced student , national honors society etc... Mikey is 9 and the Tera Nova Scores showed he's advanced as well as is Courtney. BUT, our school has little to offer in way of classes for them. I was driving them to the next district where they seperate the kids, so each can work at their ability, however it's a half hour away and each grade starts at different times. So this year I had to bring them back, it was just too much!!! I've been doing research on homeschooling and in my neighborhood, it's become quite popular. I've got 3 homeschooling families on my street alone! I'm also very concerned about their peers. Due to an increased number of new housing developements, what used to be a quiet small town has become overcrowded and full of awful influences. My son had an EIGHT year old pull a knife on him on the school bus! My neighborhood had a beautiful pond and gazebo. The teenagers drew giant private parts all over it and took an ax to the picnic table! I'm at a loss. Then when my kid came home from school and stuck up his middle finger and asked what it meant, I just lost it! Sorry...this is turning into a novel! LOL Anyhooo...I'd love to get to know other homeschoolers. I already have a summer curriculum. It's not huge...I don't want to make their summer break miserable, but there's going to be some math & science. Lit and Reading is already a part of our everyday lives. And they don't need to work on that. They're way ahead in that. My son is going to be a 4th grader next year, but I'm probably going to review 3rd grade in June and then get him started on 4th grade math come July. Nothing major, probably just some basic principles and facts in the morning. I figure he'll be more likely to comply with the great outdoors looming overhead...schoolwork...then play! Well, glad to be here.
Welcome to the spot! Glad to meet you, and hope you stick around! This is a fantastic resource for homeschooling families, as well as just a lounge for us HSing moms. Can't wait to get to know you!
