So, my friend introduced me to the Tropical Smoothie cafe where they serve sandwiches, wraps, and smoothies. We've been making smoothies here at home and they are so easy and so good! If you want to try it, my favorite recipe is a whole navel orange, 8 frozen strawberries, 8-10 frozen pineapple chunks, 1/2-1 cup of milk (or equal parts yogurt and milk to make 1 cup), throw it into a blender and blend to the desired consistency. If you are using all fresh fruit, just toss in some ice cubes after you blend all the fruit and milk/yogurt, and if you want it a bit sweeter, then add a tablespoon of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla. I started substituting these for 2 meals a day (threw in some wheat germ for extra 'sticking' power) and I found I didn't even get hungry throughout the day, and felt better than ever! Not to mention I dropped a few pounds.

AND IT DOESN'T HAVE BANANAS IN IT!!! (I don't like bananas, and just about every Smoothie recipe has bananas!)

About the whole navel orange...you do peel it and cut it into segments first, right?

Just curious about the process. Sounds yummy!

We make smoothies every day for breakfast! (In our home we call them hugeies- made up word!) We just toss whatever I have around in it and we've hardly been sick since I started this. In the summer, I'll freeze some of the mixture into Popsicle molds for treats or a quick outside snack!

1 smoothie I make for me and the kids is a green smoothie. I put 2 cups packed spinach and add about 2 cups frozen fruit. our favorite kind is mixed fruit, but sometimes I will only add strawberries or blueberries or peaches. I am not sure if you can do this is a regular blender, I have a Bled-tec. They LOVE this and it's a great way to get the veggeis in.

Kari-yes, you peel and cut into segments first. :D
Great ideas with the spinach, and freezing! Thanks! I'm not sure what a bled-tec is...will have to look that one up online. ;) I have been thinking about getting one of those magic bullet blenders...anyone have one of those they love or hate?

I have a mgic bullet blender, and I don't think it does a very good job at all. I use my magic bullet for grinding flax seeds, making baby food and smaller tasks.

    My favorite is........

Take a pint of the new Haagen Das pineapple and coconut icecream, add a little milk and mix in the blender to desired thick or thiness.

If you like it real thick you can leave the milk out and eat it out of the container with a spoon.

    LOL

    Hear is another

Take a Haagen Das chocolate (they have new "5" labling indicating only 5 ingredients took me a while to find it) then add some starbucks chocolate mocha drink then blend. The colors will not look right until you mix, the browns do not match.

Great idea with the heat and it's not too filling for those trips to the pool!

Have you ever tried Moosetracks Ice Cream? It's vanilla with chunks of chocolate, and some mini peanutbutter cups in it! YUMMY!!!
