Good morning friends! How was everyone's weekend? I hope you all had a wonderful one! We did, and are still trying to catch up just a little. If you don't mind if I repeat myself, this is nearly what I wrote on Saturday on last week's post:

Can I tell you how PROUD I am of my DS?? He set a goal to walk in the ACS Cancer walk this weekend- he wanted to walk 50 laps around the track and raise more than $200. Well, we participated Friday night. DS walked 54 laps=13.5 miles=a half marathon!!! He has a couple of blisters on his feet, and is a little stiff but he did AWESOME!! He also raised over $400!! We walked until about 3:15 in the morning. He had some "help" from his brothers and from his best friend, but I also tried to help by walking many of the laps with him. I'm happy to report that I walked 40 laps= 10 miles!!!! (I am a lot more stiff than he is, but not too bad!!) lol

I just wanted to share. Oh, and what made me almost as proud of him... he noticed a woman trying to pull a stroller down the concrete stairs while carrying a baby, and DS veered off the track and up the stairs to carry the stroller down for her. It made my heart smile!

So, that was our weekend. Actually, we did some more things, and the boys had friends over both days and they played outside between thunderstorms. DS and I tried to go to the track this morning and walk, but we only made it around once before the mosquitos tried to carry us away. We will try again tomorrow (Monday)- but WITH bugspray!!

Deena, it is always neat to hear what DD is experiencing with her "endeavor". Thanks for sharing.

PH- thanks for sharing about your food processor. I'm so glad you are enjoying it!

I've got to run for now, but will check in soon! I can't wait to hear what you all have been up to!

Drink your water and kiss your kids! MT3

Your son walked 13.5 miles and raised over $400, and you walked 10? Oh my goodness! Congratulations!

Two (besides myself) in our fam and summer work crew will eat spinach and the Indian boxed spinach "Tasty Bites" dish served over rice. (In fact, my dh really likes it!) They & the others will eat corn-on-the-cob and corn in corn bread, and of course a bit of lettuce and the tomatoes in salsa when it's served with things like tacos. I use garlic and onions in many main dishes. Also, potatoes are always welcome, but that's about it for vegetables--mostly starchy types. (My health-food type concoctions are politely passed on by.)

I'm feeling a little guilty that our wonderful summer team isn't getting a larger amount of greens, reds, and yellows from veggies into their systems. We're all enjoying fresh fruits, though, so maybe we're not doing too badly. I do well with juicing carrots, apples, pineapple, a lemon, and a nob of ginger root, but with so much going on, I seldom take the time to do that just for myself. But maybe today! Blessings to all of you as you care for those "temples of the Holy Spirit!"

Hello! It's been a busy couple of weeks here, with lots of blowing and going on the weekends. I'm too much of a homebody to enjoy that much. I mean, two hours of shopping wears me out, so too much travel is a no-no! :)

Nothing very exciting to report, but happy to be alive and have water to drink and a kid (and dh) to kiss!

MT3, your son sounds like a real gentleman!

...and that walk! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Aside from choir practice and church, we stayed home and rested this weekend. We have been so busy with company that we just wanted to rest and spend time with each other for a change of pace.

    Thanks you guys! :)

Hey PH- have you tried grilling veggies for your crew? Sweet potato slices, or peppers, or kabobs with mushrooms/onions/cherry tomatoes/peppers/squash, etc. I have been in the mood for green beans recently- I wonder what that means?? (Like if you crave ice you are low in iron or something..)

And yum, that juice sounds tasty!

gardenturtle- we would prefer to be homebodies too. If it weren't for sports we would be at home in the evenings a LOT more! Glad all is well.

Hi Patty! Rest and relaxation sounds like the plan at your house- and it's a good one! :) Enjoy!

pkrustic- I saw on another post that you are looking for younger curriculum. Are you checking out yard sales, etc? And your local library may have a book sale this summer to help with your reading titles. There are some good websites for downloading worksheets, etc- but there is the expense of the paper and ink!

Deena- girlfriend, I think you need to take a breath! It sounds like things are busy for you. Are you having the wild weather too? Boise had 1.65 inches of rain in the last 3 days (we are near that total)- and this is supposed to be a desert! The tough thing is that we have alot of growth right now, and then when it dries out we could have a bad fire season.

I'm so tired right now I could put my head down and be asleep! lol Guess I need to go walk around the block and get the blood moving! The library is a block away from the church, and the kids are looking forward to walking over when they open today.

Off to get busy. Take care all! Drink your water and kiss your kids! MT3

We don't grill much, but vegetable kabobs do sound good, and we're talking about getting out the grill for this weekend. Grilled sweet potatoes would be a new treat. Thanks for the idea!

Grilled Sweet Potatoes DO sound good! We like them a lot around here - which is good, since our soils are great for growing them - lots of sand.

I just made my first ever batch of homemade pickles - delicious! :)

gardenturtle- congrats on your first pickles! Yum, that sounds good. Are they sweets or dills? My favorite ones to make are lime pickles- but that takes me DAYS, and I don't have a glass crock big enough for the lime process right now. We won't have cucumbers ready for quite some time still. About the only thing available (or affordable) right now is strawberries. And I'm not sure where they came from.

pkrustic- I hope you get some good rest. It sounds like you are going too hard! What are you working on? (planting, farming, maintenance, etc?) It is so wet today that DS can't mow the yard AGAIN.

I have a bit of a headache this morning- trying to kick that. It's not terrible though, just nagging. I'm plowing through a stack of paperwork though- that always feels good to finish!

Just thought I'd stop in and say hi again. Talk to you all again soon!- MT3

MT3 - hope the headache is gone now, along with the pile of paperwork!

The pickles are sweet dills if that makes any sense. They're not as sweet as bread and butter ones, but not as sour as typical dills. My cucumers have just barely started bearing and these cukes were bought from a roadside stand. Anyway, they're good! :)

We made vegetable kabobs the day before yesterday with red, green, and yellow peppers, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Do you cook the sweet potatoes and carrots first? They didn't soften at all. ('Sorry, I know that to you all who grill a lot, this sounds elementary!)
