I just saw that about Billy Mayes. The thing I saw said he was on a plane that was making a rough landing and he hit his head pretty hard. Before he went to bed his wife said he complained of feeling bad.

I must confess that I get a little frustrated by all the media attention given to the passing of 'celebrities'. What about the young lady recently shot and killed during the protests in Iran? Now that's the death of a hero, someone to admire and respect. Apologies to any fans of Michael Jackson and others, but they aren't in the same league.

Neda...did I spell that right, Cornish Steve? Her death was tragic. I admire those women in Iran..they are certainly fighters. I also love a pioneer spirit...a spirit that says we want our rights for today and for the future.

Media attention is geared toward celebirities deaths because media attention is geared toward celebirties. Same league or not, it would be weird not to know that Farrah or MJ died, ya know? I know you aren't saying that it shouldn't be in the news but just not so much fuss. I agree...but like it or not people identify or at least want to with their favorite celebs. MJ sold 100 million Thriller albums! That is a piece of pop culture dying. His death is significant in a different way. I am NOT a huge MJ fan...just flipping the coin. I see no harm in the memorials but like you, Steve, I think there are some deaths that should not go unnoticed and should also be honored.

I once read, though, that while on CA, Farrah would go home and cook Lee Majors' supper! she might have been an object- a rich one- but she had to cook just like we do! Hey, Sommer, could we do a show of some sort??;)

I think much of her money came after CA. Becky.. we can pull anything off :p

I am shocked about Billy Mays. Infomercials will never be the same... sigh. (I don't really watch them.. but he always stood out when I channel surf and he does do plenty of regular comercials too).

Jokes like the lego one are distasteful. Think of the family! Too soon for that joke? There is NEVER a time for a joke like that.

Amen and well said Ava. Think of the family. The kids they are the ones I really feel sorry for. They never ask to be brought in this world and look what those poor babies are going through already. I am sure it will get much worst...

I'm not bothered by the humor, tasteful or not. Maybe because I'm not surprised and knew it would start. Does it make it right? No, but I wont lie and say I haven't laughed at a few. I've heard the lego joke before, and to be honest, I've heard way worse.

I expect to see celebrity passings in the media, but I do agree that I could do without all the hype and media mourning. I didn't care for MJ. Well, I did during his Thriller days until he got a bit strange. Still, I do not need so much media attention about it. I think it goes quite a bit overboard. So, tell the world about it then move on to "real" news please. I do feel sorry for the kids though, and I can't fathom what kind of rocky world they were brought into...when your mother leaves you because your "dad" paid her off to leave your life??? Sick.

On a side and slightly happier note, maybe we wont hear as much about Jon and Kate now??? Ugh!!!

I agree Jen that it has been overblown. The humor isn't a huge torn in my side and I did expect it, however, I cannot tolerate elementary school behavior...drives me crazy. Can't we just all let it go? It is sad he died at such a young age..but now it's over. Farrah got lost in the shuffle. yet..I think the coverage on her death was approiate..informational..a bit of a memorial..and that's it. I have a feeling they will be discussing MJ for quite some time.

Sadly, I think you're right. We'll probably be seeing MJ all over the news for many months to come. Ugh!

Sorry to say but as big of a music icon as Jackson was in my book he was also a child abuser. He paid families off and got away with a lot of crap. Sure I liked his music back in the day but let's be honest here. He had gone to freaksville. I am sad that his death overshadowed Farrah's.

Ya know what's funny? I had only thought of Micheal Jackson as a freak for the past 10 years or so. When I heard he died I figured it was drugs and I did think about the child abuse. Then with all the memorial stuff, it brought back the old MJ memories of Thriller and I then remember what I liked about him and so didn't think again about the freak side so much. lol. Well...basically, I never put too much thought into any of it, really..lol. I did, however, like the Thriller album along with 100 million others..lol. And I also think it was terrible how his death overshadowed Farrah.

I did not know that Karl Malden passed away. I was just watching a movie called Babydoll with him in it. A very contraversial movie in it's day. It was nothing compared to today's movies. A very good actor.

And if you've ever watched 'Are You Being Served' (shown by many PBS stations on Saturday evenings), the actress who played Mrs. Slocumbe (Mollie Sugden) died today. She was 86.

Wendy Richard (who played Miss Brahms) died earlier this year. Captain Peacock is still going strong, though.
