Please help! I am possibly one of the most ignorant people when it comes to computers. I think I got myself into a computer mess by shutting down my computer the wrong way.

Lately when I turn on my computer, the brain part(I do not know the real name.) starts up without a problem but my screen remains black and the little green light turns on for a second then shuts off. After working with the computer for a bit everything seems to go back to normal but this happens everytime I start my computer and the problem seems to be getting worse.

    Any ideas!

Is it a laptop or a desktop?

It sounds like it's a power issue with your monitor. The easiest way to test it is to hook up another monitor to your tower. If you don't have another desktop in the house, see if a friend or family member can bring over a monitor for you. If it doesn't do the same thing with another monitor, than (most likely) either your monitor is going bad or your power cord is going bad. Either way, it's nothing you could have caused by shutting it down wrong.

I was going to suggest, that you make sure the powercord to the monitor is plugged in tightly to the monitor.
