Whats every ones favorite way to make potatoes? I am making some tonight, just not sure what kind, I'll be making pork chops, corn bread, italian green beans.......... and some kind of potato, I like the kind that you cut in half (after washing) and sprinkle paprika, dill weed, galic powder, and then topping with margarine (butter tends to burn) and bake for about half an hour but hubby doesn't like them very well.

I like mashed potatoes and twiced baked potatoes. But, I am too lazy most days so I just bake them or use a package of mashed potatoes. I made pork chops in my crockpot yesterday. They were sooo good. We had baked beans and broccoli/cauliflower mix with them. I like to cook simple things.

My favorite is a *good* baked potato. By that I mean, NOT one done in the microwave! I like mine done in the oven~ I like to wrap them in foil~ but first I spray them with Pam (or spread with oil) and sprinkle all kinds of spices on them. If you don't have alot of time~ you can microwave them about 1/2 done, then put them in a skillet with some oil and the spices and do them that way~ they get a crispy, spicy skin that is so yummy (reminds me of Cracker Barrel). Then, I like butter and sour cream on them!

I didn't make potatoes last night, just green beans and corn.

however my dd's favorite new way to have potatoes is cut up, drizzled with oil, and sprinkled with a packet of dry ranch dressing mix (Ranch dressing is one of her 5 food group) and bake at 350 about 35-45 minutes, stirring about every 6-7 minutes. kind of like Heidi's herbed potatoes.
I just made 2X baked, for the first time this weekend past, and they actually liked them.

every one of us here is so darn picky, Donald is the worse, but I've decided he knows when he is hungry he eat when he is and all I have to really control with him is not letting him have too much junk food, my husband say's "I'll eat anything mostly" but its not true, so finding things we will all eat is hard. Even chocolate has been fussed over lately..............uggg.

Jen have you made the snack crackers almost the same way as the potatoes I described, its cheez it crackers, a pkt. dry ranch and 1/4 c. oil, mix together in a large baggie or container, shake it up and let them sit in the fridge for a day. Then eat, left overs are supposed to be kept in the fridge, also, rotate container a few times before eating.

Hubby is the pickiest one in our house. I have to use onion powder so he doesn't see the onions. Anything green is out of the window, unless it has some sauce to go on it. Both the boys are "plain" eaters, where I like things loaded with stuff like herbs and spices. MEN!

I'm not sure I can remember what snack crackers you're talking about, you'll have to refresh my memory (it hasn't been the greatest;)).

I saw the snack cracker recipe on the foodnetwork (show) its by Paula deen and she used the kind of small crackers that have cheese in them (Ritz bits), but I didn't have those, but wanted to make them so I just used about 4 cups cheeze it crackers, the oil and the seasoning packet. put it in the container, flip over the container while it "marinates" and then serve, you can add pretzels and peanuts I think you want about 4-6 cups or else add more of the other ingredients.

I'm soooo glad my kids aren't picky! They're good sports and will usually try pretty much anything! They went through little stages, my oldest being the worst, but they're all back to at least trying something before making a decision, and then it's usually that they'd try it again.

Have you done the potatoes in foil under the coals of an outside fire? We did that camping when I was younger. We added seasoning and carrots and butter---Mmmmmm it was sooo good! I don't remember how long to leave it or anything though. I want to try it in our oven. Anybody have an idea on this?

Deena, you should check out the Renolyds (sp) website, you know the foil people, they have recipes there for all kinds of foil packets.

I usually get potato pancakes when we go out to eat for breakfast---regular pancakes are just too heavy for me, or something. I get them with both sour cream and applesauce!

Oh yeah, Kris, onions. That's what I forgot in my previous post. That sounds so good! I need to try that again!

Skippy, could you post the recipe for potato pancakes?

We try to have baked potatoes (loaded, of course!!!) and salad for dinner once or twice a month. Has anyone made baked potatoes in the crock pot? The skins are really soft. I agree with Heidi about microwave baked potatoes...NOT FOR ME!!! So if I'm planning on being gone and don't have time to bake them in the oven, I will put them in my crock pot and leave. Also, it doesn't heat up the house so much in the summer. (And I have to admit that, once the potato is gone, I will cover the skin with butter and cheese, stick it in the microwave to melt the cheese, load it down when it's out and eat it like that. We won't discuss fat content, LOL!)

My mom always takes left-over mashed potatoes and make Potato Cakes out of them. She just makes them into a "patty" and fries them in butter. I'm the only one who takes the left-over mash potatoes from my MIL's house at the holidays!

Foiled potatoes in the fire...YUMMMMY!!! One of those things the kids can "make" on their own while camping!!!
