Ok, now that Amanda's good news is out, I was thinking on my way to church tonight of her pregnancy and what is to come... Then Andrew and I got to talking about the things (weird as they were) that I craved while pregnant so that's my inspiration. What weird things did you crave while you were pregnant (enjoy Amanda)? Christian (who will be 14 tomorrow) Fresh mushrooms White milk Raw Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) Andrew Raw onions (I used to eat them whole - just like an apple) Hamburger vegetable soup with macaroni cooked into it milk Noah Special "K" Bits 'n' Bites Milk Watermelon Ice Cream Nacho's
With ds #1 (who IS 14 now!): Burritos from a restaurant here called Azteca. The burritos are called Macho burritos, and they have rice, cheese, tomatoes in them, then I loved pouring their salsa over the top of it, smothering the large burrito, then I'd eat all of it!!! My boss thought it was so funny. He often came back from his appts. with a macho burrito with lots of salsa on it for me! He had stopped by and ordered it to go. He was a cool guy---acted tough and macho, but really had a soft heart. With ds #2: I craved salads! I couldn't get enough of them! With dd: It was icecream sundaes---usually maple walnut with hot fudge! (I still like that!) My dh was watching me type this and brought up this point: The interesting thing is, the foods I craved when I was pregnant with them, are the ones they love to eat now! Is that something that happened with any of you?
Deena yes it did my children love what I crave too. DD #1 I wanted toaster stusslers and fruity pebbles DD #2 Ice Cream any kind I could get and Subway
The boys love vegetables and fruit - so I count my blessings there. I can't keep yogurt in the house (which I didn't eat then but like now - but there's never any left by the time I go to the fridge). They all like milk, special K, bits and bites and all the other stuff (minus the soup concauction I came up with and the raw onions like apples
My kids too, Brenda--fruits and especially vegetables, they really like! I don't like the taste of Special K alone, but it's okay in cottage cheese loaf or something that disguises it's flavor! Skippy---how could anyone crave sauerkraut?!!! That is one thing that I tried and just do NOT like!
I don't remember craving ANYTHING! Except maybe the sugar with Phillip that I wasn't able to have. Carl bought me a box of Jelly Bellies for Sweetest Day, knowing I REALLY liked them, but I wasn't allowed to have them. He was afraid I'd be upset. Nope! I packed them into my suitcase to take with me to the hospital, because as soon as he popped out, I could eat them again! They were gone by the time I left the hospital, LOL!
I should have been more broad with my cravings... I craved EVERYTHING that was edible (and the scales proved that) but especially the things I mentioned above.
With my son I had no cravings for a while. I was hospitalized so many times in the first 5 months of pregnancy because I couldn't eat and keep it down. I loved chicken fingers with french fries and honey mustard. My son loooooves honey mustard now. With my daughter I loved mint chocolate chip ice cream. There was this place called Rons ice cream shop and it had the best ice cream. You could go in there and get a waffle cone with 6 scoops in it. Not normal scoops, biiig scoops! Ah man, I wish we had another.
Starting with Avarie since it was just this past summer - Taco Bell - anything from Taco Bell. I know not very strange, but for someone who NEVER eats there it was. For Megan is was pineapples and steamed clams, yes, together. For Elle orange millkshakes and fries. For Alex anything fried.
I craved pizza with Ansley. The boys I never really craved anything. Way too busy. We were building a new home, working, had Ansley plus twins coming so plenty of doctor appointments to keep me busy.
I craved chinese food, mostly chicken fried rice and chicken chow mein. I also craved fried cheese curds with ranch dressing (still do), frozen custard, and many types of fast food. I am a big chinese food person to begin with and being pregnant just egged it on more! Same with the cheese curds. It also didn't help we lived right down the road from a culvers that has fried cheese curds. What things made you guys sick? Smelling roasted turkey and chicken made me ill. What stunk even worse is that I found out I was pregnant right before Thanksgiving, so that Thanksgiving day I hardly ate because the smell made me so ill!
Peanut butter, pickles, potato chips, anything spicy with dd. Broccoli, greens ( mustard, collards, turnips),and sprite. with ds These are my kids favorite things to eat also. That is funny what we craved when pregnant that is what they love. My mom told me that when she was carrying me, she craved chicken and dumplings and red beans and rice, my favorites.
That's very funny now that you mention it. Tanner LOVES chinese food, especially fried rice. We went to the shopping mall and ate there. Out of everything he had to choose from (McDonald's, Arby's, etc.) he chose the Chinese restaurant! He doesn't like ice cream or custard though...he thinks he does, then when he tastes it he is reminded that he doesn't. Always a waste!
I always craved mexican food. What really made me sick was white bread of any kind. The yeast smell and taste was way intensified! Sabrina
I craved chineese food with the twins, always puked before I got to the parking lot though.................with donald I wanted but never got Subway sandwiches with extra vinager and pickles, with Eva, I wanted those Icecream cones, Matterhorn I think they are called.--we lived a block away from a 7-11 so I walked and got them alot. My husband was so kind when I was pregnant the last time, we ordered out a lot so I wouldn't have to smell the food cooking........when I was pregnant with the twins I worked at McDonalds, I couldn't stand to smell especially the breakfast foods, but loved the smell of the french fries. I was that lady that you talked to when you order, and it was down a very long hall way where I didn't have to be around the food much. (ate a lot of pancakes with strawberry sundae topping).
With Christian nothing made me sick (just the hormones - morning sickness but it usually didn't happen until later in the evening - crakers to the rescue). Andrew's pregnancy was fine (not sick at all)... Noah - Oh my! I was SICK for three months or more with him - on meds and all - his pregnancy was the hardest on me - sick, migraines (which I didn't have with the other two), weight loss, spotting you name it (that's why I was convinced I was having a girl with him)...
