I'm getting very frustrated and figured I'd come here for help! We live in an area where it is very hard to find high speed internet and if we are going to use th K12 program, we have to have it. I've been trying google searches but I seem to be getting further away from what I'm searching for. If any of you can give me some carrier suggestions I'd appreciate it! If you don't want to post it here, pm me if you don't mind. I thought I could get it with Time Warner and they called today and said that even though my neighbor several houses down can get it, we can't. We are in a flaky spot right here - country side and at the same time we are right beside an ANG Base! I hope someone can help me.

I am familiar with the K12 program and yes, you will definitely need a high speed connection. Here are some suggestions. Check out hughesnet. They offer high speed Internet connectivity through satellite and claim they are availble everywhere.

Look into DirectTV and Dishnetwork to see if they offer Internet service in your area. Contact your phone comany to see if "DSL" service is available. Wild Blue is another satellite service.

Here are some Google search keywords you can try.

    - highspeed internet [your city and state] - leave off brackets
    - satellite internet provider
    - satellite high speed internet

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck!
    - Jeff

Typically high speed (where we live) is primarily available through our cable provider, our phone company, or a satellite tv provider. We chose the cable provider for ours (I like cable internet versus phone DSL...just my personal preference though)

My parents live out in the country where no cable or DSL is available. They have gotten high speed through satellite and now through Alltel. The satellite service was Wild Blue - try googling that. I think any cell phone provider now offers high speed internet so check with them to see if you're in their coverage area.

We had wild blue and while I liked it, you end up having to buy the middle package for it to be any sort of speedy and say you use 10 mb of service on july 18th, well you would get that same usage back to you a month later. It's a rolling service. Where a friend of mine has hughes and if they use their allotted usage then it comes back to them the very next day they don't have to wait a month. It's a little inconvenient when you have to download stuff and have to monitor constantly your usage. I have comcast now.

I have dsl when we are at home and I like it. When we are on the road I have the sprint broadband card, it is somewhat expensive though but it is hard not being connected. Good luck Jennifer and let us know what you decide.

Lee, my problem is not what I decide but what I can even find!! I did call TimeWarner back this morning and was told I can have a tech come out and see if they can run the cable to the house. I'm going to check into that when we go into town. Comcast and At&t aren't available and the tech at Comcast told me that she wouldn't recommend their sattelite. I'm going to check with Wildblue if I don't have any luck with TW. Thanks for the suggestions!

Have you tried AT&T?? We have a package deal with our home phone, digital tv and high speed internet. We have four cell phones with them too.

We are in such a crazy spot that we cannot get any of the regulars like AT&T, TimeWarner, Comcast just to name a few. Earthlink called me back and said they use TW techs to do the cable but they are a separate service. I'll know for sure by next Fri if we can get it. The lady I talked to at the national level with TW was a bit shocked at the run around I'm getting. She said if even 1 person on our road is getting service she can't see why we can't. I just got an email saying we will get our school supplies on Tues! Earthlink has an affordable rate so please send out prayers that this will work. Satellite is rather steep and I don't know if I can do it at this time. Push come to shove, we will go back to hsing on our own but Joyce is so excited about this next year that I really want this to work out.

well Jennifer, I do know with traveling that Wild Blue is one of the pricey one. Have you tryed Dish Network, they aren't to bad.
what we did alot I know it might be hard at first but it's better then nothing, you can take her to the library and use there computer and net for her school until something works out that is what we had to do when we were on the road alot. It worked out great.
Yea we had to drive but oh well.
    Just a thought.

WildBlue and Hughes have a 2 year commitment on top of being pricey. We need to get into a better place (alot of mold issues) and I want the freedom of being able to go with another company. I'm not enjoying our break because this won't get out of my head! I know that what is meant to be is what we will do for the next school year but this up-in-the-air business is hard. Btw, thanks for all of your input!

Oh yeah, I'm sorry Jennifer R. I forgot to mention the 2 year contract. And it is pricey. I agree with you on that. That's why when we were up I was done! We now live in an area where I can get comcast.

You don't need to apologize! I'm thankful for the suggestions even if they aren't working out!

I do understand it's hard to use the internet with slow connection speeds. It sometimes use to take me forever to download pages depending on the flash in them. I did eventually download ad block pro on my mozilla and that helped with the flashy things taking so much time to load.
