Wow! I know I may not be the popular opinion here-but what is wrong with people? Are we telling our kids that dressing right and having the right hairstyle is THAT important?! I understand that girls want to fit in and not be an outcast, but this is excessive IMHO.

It is whacky, but honestly, if I were a teen today trying to shop off the rack, I'd need a consultant too -- actually, I'd probably just need a seamstress! I was struck by the teen saying that she needed advice, because she thought she dressed too provacatively. How sad that she feels this way, and yet can't fix it herself. I think TV as well as what is on the rack at the stores has made our girls think they have no choices. I was a teen in the 80s, and we may not have set the world on fire with our poofy-hair styles, but at least we had choices. You didn't have to wear the fake-leather skin-tight pants and thick metallic belts, you could wear shaker sweaters and baggy pants or wrap-around skirts or kahki pants and izod-like polos complete with the thin Agner belt. (The Agner belt is the only name-brand thing I ever had; my daughter wears it now -- guess she's going to need fashion therapy, because of me!)

Reading the article, at first I thought that it was nuts but then I guess I can see both sides. The way the media portrays girls these days it is no wonder that their view of their bodies and sense of fashion is skewed. I am pretty lucky in that aspect that DD doesn't want to dress like what she sees on TV and hopefully that doesn't change.
It does seem sad that these girls have to even go to an image consultant but to each his own.
