UGH!! I am SOoooOOOOoOO stressed right now!! With all that's going on with hubby and his back, His pay has been slashed in half. On top of our leaky roof we now have a major fire hazard with the braker box. It is seriously hot to the touch.. I didn't sleep much last night for fear that it would catch fire.. I was constantly up and down checking it. One of my biggest fears is to have a fire at night. So PLEASE pray that we will not have a fire at night and if we do that everyone would get out safely... I don't want to loose my house but if I do that's fine, as long as my family is safe..

    Thanks

Our assumption is that since it's an older house with the original breaker box it wasn't wired to handle all the modern technological energy suckers that we have today. All we need is $1000 dollars and we can have the whole house rewired and then have central heat and air!! After we get hubby's back problem situated we'll get it done. Until then PLEASE pray for our safety. Thanks

Are there some things that you can unplug so it isnt a drain on the breaker? Like computers, tv, clocks, etc.

Does the breaker trip if you run too much?

Sometimes the breaker trips. The problem is the refridgerated window unit air conditioners. This morning I turned them off and it was extremely HOT in here. 88 degrees to be exact. As soon as I turned them off the breaker box cooled down.. I don't know what to do. I guess I would rather be hot from heat than from a fire.

I think that I would deal with the heat instead of risking a house fire.

I think you need to call someone to come and look at it. I understand the back trouble, going through it right now with dh. But, try to explain to them what is going on and see if you can make monthly payments, yes I know it's more payments you don't need right now. I understand believe me. But, if you lose your house and everything in it, it will cost you more to get everything back. A child, spouse or yourself you can't replace.
So, please call and tell them. Cut back on what ever you can so you can fit the monthly payment in. I know with times so hard now, people or companies are looking for work everyone I shouldn't say that but most everyone is willing to work with you.
So, what if you have to use the food pantry for a month or two to pay this bill its worth it.
So, please we don't want to lose you or any of your love ones, try to call someone in to help you it's just to darn hot in Texas with no air.

I am sorry this is happening and I am praying.

Does your electric company do repairs? The company we use does and they also take payments if necessary.

was thinking about you guys last night,

Make sure you get a fire extinguisher, replace batteries in your smoke alarm, go over a fire safety exit (including helping your DH with his back problems), make coppies of all your important documents and store them elsewhere in a sealed envelope.

can you find out if your city has any kind of agency that can help with emergency house repair (circut box)...... ask at church or with city officials.

We were having this problem recently. We are in a rural area and it turned out we needed a bigger "house" breaker. The one at the pole outside. We had part of our line that had corroted(sp.?really don't know how to spell that!!) through. We repaired that and went to a 200 amp breaker. Are you in a residential neighborhood with just meters or is there a box on a pole outside with the meter? Is yours a breaker box or a fuse box?

Praying for your safety. Electricity can be so scary.

Hubby came home yesterday to the smell of wire burning. So he called an electrician. They came out and did a temporary fix on the breaker box. They were supposed to call today but didn't. We were gone out of town to a DR appt for hubby. So tomorrow my husband is going to call them and see when they are going to come fix it. They know the $$ situation and aren't worried about it. So things are ok in that area right now.
