I am thinking of using the BJU Heritage Studies for 2nd grade. But I really do not need something super time consuming. Any opinions?

I was given the Heritage STudies for 5th grade. Judging by that it won't be time consuming...it was rather brief and to the point. I have not seen the 2nd grade book but if it is anything like the 5th...it won't be too involved. Personally, I did not like that aspect. It is a regular school textbook and nothing more...nothing less. However, if you are looking for something not so involved but want a decent overall study then it should be fine. Bob Jones has quality curriculum. It's just the history didn't fit my style. (I am a history freak! lol)

Ava...we have soooo much history stuff at this point and do so much of our own, I mostly don't want any sit down work that will take up tons of our time. I figured I would get the activity book with the Heritage studies, but did not know if that would interfere more with our plans than the other way around.

We are doing World History O'Fun this fall. I still wanted American History in there too. I also want us to try to do the activities at the area history museums. Those museums are actually about an hour drive away, but I still would like to do them.

We've used BJUP Heritage Studies for 3 years now. It's not time consuming in the least! The lessons are so short I do three days worth at once. You read some in the textbook, then the child has a work text page or two to complete.

This year, one of the final lessons was the Civil War. We went to G-burg, where Jeannie did a program called Soldier for a Day. She learned what soldiers had to deal with on any typical day during their service.

I like Heritage Studies and think you'll find it a very fast and easy program to do.

    Great! Thanks!

I just have so many resources and things to do, but was intrigued by Heritage Studies so thought it would be worth a try so I had wanted to ask. Unfortunately, I missed the sales! It was yesterday and over the last couple of days.

I did BJU HS 2 and no, it's not time-consuming. It's also done twice a week or all in only one semester.

I will say that I thought the first section was a bit of twaddle. We knew about farms and community, just by driving around. But the rest of it is really good. I love BJU! We're continuing it in 3rd as well.

I love that it's very age related. I mean you don't need this deep study at this level. It's just perfect.

I think BJU history looks great, and if I'd found it in time to begin it in 2nd grade (and had a clue), that'd have been great. Not sure how it would work with my non-textbooky kiddo, but it looks great if that works for you! (I'd supplement out my ears. LOL But that's me. I think the BJU history stuff looks excellent.)

I taught 5th grade American history using the BJU Press textbook and my students found it very boring and dry. I echo what others say about it being an overview and not too indepth. If this speaks to the 2nd grade book I'd recommend looking for something more engaging for the kids...and supplementing it with some interesting historical fiction. :)
