you all sound so ready for school, maybe its because I just got back from two kids camps ( they were great btw) but wow I really do not want to get started on school yet thats for sure.. the heat is too high for that sort of thinking... Does the weather effect your school? maybe I will start a thread for that,, sorry.

I just found out that our Youth Group is having a back to school swimming party/cookout at my sister's pool on Aug. 24th. That is our first day back and the public schools start the next day. We will be finished way before time for the party so it is going to be a nice day for the girls.

We're starting August 27th and his last day will be June 11th. We're doing a "virtual academy," so we have requirements for days and hours. He'll get three days off at Thanksgiving, two weeks off at Christmas and a week off in March, and a few days here and there for other things.

I am kind of intrigued by the fact that public school doesn't start in our area until September 9th, yet ends on the same day we will end. They only do 2 hours longer each day than we are required to do, and get WAY more "random" days off during the school year than we do (for example, they get the whole week of Thanksgiving off) and only go 4 days a week.

I know it must add up (since our virtual school is a public school and therefore has the same requirements as our local schools), but I just don't see how! I may have to add them up to compare, just because it's kind of been driving me nuts ever since I compared DS's to DD's calendars (her preschool, which she'll go to three mornings a week, follows the same schedule as the public school).

We started 2 weeks ago, July 13th.

We will go 9 weeks and take a week off, go 9 more weeks then have off from the week of Thanksgiving till the week after New Years (a 6 week break), then go 9 weeks and have one off, do our last 9 and be done May 14th. We will have an 8 week summer vacation and repeat the same cycle next year.

Oh, I guess we will start back August 31. That's a Monday. I start teaching online classes for University of Phoenix August 10th, so that gives me some time to get them started before we start. Plus, I already told him we were starting late this year and if I change my mind he'll be mad.

I still have to purchase Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra, but other than that we are all set.

Yes it does for us. We get so little of the nice weather and the heat that we tend to have fun then and school when it is cold. This is one of our reasons for starting so late.

well, for us the reason we are starting the 24th is i have other kids here who are hanging out this summer that go to ps. they start the 24th and so we can start then, i thought about starting a week early but with 2 extras, i don't think they would be quiet while my girls did school. i think it would be more of a hassle. so the 24th it is!

Carl says that two hours a day is huge. He says to add it up, and you'll find that's probably accurate.

We've already started lightly...2-3 days a week since the second week of July. We'll start back with a regular load in August....so we can take a little vacation with hubby in September (he's deployed but will be home soon).

Dh goes back to work on August 10th, so that is our start day! DH is a college prof, so we roughly follow his academic college schedule. The last two years we've gone on vacation in mid May and made it at least semi-educational (This past May we spent several days in Williamsburg - then drove down to Disney ;))

We started on July 5th this year. I'm due with our third the first week of December so I wanted to have a large chunk of our year out of the way before the baby's born.

We never really stopped though what we have been doing the past couple of months has been very light. We'll start up with more formal and rigourous stuff on Aug. 3 though.

I never used to worry about when the ps was starting, but now that we are in a neighborhood full of kids I think we may follow their schedule. If I don't wait until they start school I will be spending all my teaching time answering the door and sending their friends away. That means they will be starting Aug. 6.
