My youngest is doing the primer ones and even though I purchased the teachers guide, I see no use in it. She just does it and is doing great. My older daughter did 1-5 and we tried using the teachers guide with her but it was too much. In my opinion the books are self explainatory so the teachers guides aren't necessary. Just my opinion.

I went with Explode the Code for my twins. I got the teachers guides. I figured for the price if I ended up not needing it not much was lost.

They aren't necessary. There were helpful for the Primers (Ready, Set, Go) but starting at Book 1, you can do it without them. For Book 1 & 2, I only used it for the post-test dictation and you can make that up or skip it anyway. I didn't buy any after that and my son is almost done with Book 6.

You need the teachers guide for the A, B and C, but not the others. A, B and C have listening type pages that you need the guide for to tell them the directions.

I did not know this. I wondered what those pages were for. I just told my daughter what the pictures were based on the next letter and emphasised the begining sound. I do have the guide though. I better go and look at it.
