Bobby called today and the recruiter from the Army was there in the room with him. Bobby pretty much has decided to sign up for the Army now. Not the reserves like he had planned. So before he finished telling me everything we got cut off and I haven't heard anything since early this afternoon. He said he really thinks this is for him. He never told me how many years he would be signing up for before we got cut off. I am hoping he calls again this evening. Please pray for him. And for us. Beth

PS- Please don't share any bad things about the Army with me right now. I am still too new to the idea and my stomach and heart are pretty shaky right now. I am very proud of him though. Thanks, Beth

Thank you. Bobby called a few minutes ago. He signed up. He will be coming home soon for a visit before basic training if nothing changes. He sounds so happy about his decision. I am trying to be happy for him or at least supportive. Beth

Beth, I'm praying for you all and for Bobby as well. I think the army is great, our Church Secretary's Daughter joined the army and it's been great for her, she's getting great training and she's going to be going to school soon too. It's great since the government is paying for everything and she's getting lots of benefits, I think it's great for people who can handle it. My college roommate's husband is in the Marines and he's doing great there as well so just good things here.

It's the Army. He'll get paid lots of money, spend some time getting in shape, then spend the next 5 years complaining about civilians and superiors and 6 months doing the same thing but in a base in the desert. He'll be fine. If anything at least he'll get free healthcare and a 2 year degree out of it.

You know. I think this is a good thing. I am believing that. There are of course, bad things about everything, BUT... I can say this, my father in law started off on the streets of Spanish Harlem... was brought off of the streets by Nicky Cruz himself, worked his way through the Teen Challenge program, went to college and seminary and then to join the army as a Chaplain and he LOVED it.

My husband is AF, but the army is great. It may be exactly what he needs. What rich history and what tremendous honor!

I have been praying for Bobby and had actually stopped by here this morning specifically to check on him. I will continue to pray. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. If you need someone to talk to more about this please let me know. I could even put you in touch with my Father in Law. He is retired now but is still involved in the Army on some levels.

was in the Army and worked at the VA Hospital for over 20 yrs. He would say it was the best thing he ever did. My dh's biggest regret was that he didn't follow through with joining shortly after we were married, I had just become preggers. God will watch over him and be with him every day. It is an extremely honorable thing to do.

To all of you who have been praying for our son, Bobby. Here is the latest that we have to share. He has been in Tenn. yesterday and today for his Army physical. He has no health problems that we have ever known of so he should be okay there. He comes home on Aug. 17 and will be here until Sept. 7th when he will be picked up and sent to Fort Benning GA. He will be there for 16 weeks with a two week break at Christmas. At least that is what he has been told. He is very excited about everything so far. He thinks the Army is what he wants and all I can do now is be supportive. He said he signed up for 3 years. We are still getting used to the idea of having a child in the Army. Our oldest is a policeman and I do okay with that because my husband is a retired cop/detective and I sort of know what to expect. I just don't know anything about the military and it scares me. Please continue to pray for our son. He should call tonight to let us know if all went well in Tenn. Thank you, Beth

Both my parents were in the Marines, my MIL was in the Navy, & my FIL was in the Army. They all came out of it fine (FIL was stationed overseas during Vietnam) & better for the time they served. My mom used her benefits to go to college when I was little (I remember sitting in some of her classes with her before I started school). My MIL is retired & FIL recently lost his job & they're using using their VA health benefits since they lost their ins through FIL's job. My dad lost his job, too & is looking into using his VA health benefits. My mom used her benefits to help buy her new house a few months ago. So, even now, many years after getting out, there are still good things coming from the fact that they were in the service.
I'm sure your son will be fine & he'll be in good company with the honor of having served his country. Plus the benefits & experience he'll get will be great for him.

The physical went well. He found out he was color blind! That isn't a big problem they said so he was sworn in today. He is coming home earlier than we thought and will be here until Sept. 7th. I am thinking it will fly by. Beth

Well as an Army family, with a career officer hubby, nothing bad from me. There are "bad" things with any job...so no reason to single out the military...lol.

Congrats on being ARMY STRONG!!! (ok, so I don't really like all those commercials but that's the motto...lol)

My hubby is color blind too. He's been in the Army for 25 years (including enlisted time, West Point, and the currently running officer years).

    CONGRATS!!

Thank you Rhonda. Bobby is very proud. I can hear it in his voice. He weighed just enough to get in. He made it by two pounds. I knew he had lost weight since going to Job Corps. The guy who roomed with him did not make the weight. He is very tall and missed it by 9 pounds. They told him to try again after picking up a few pounds.
ARMY STRONG may be something I will get used to. Bobby told me he had a bumper sticker that they gave him and he wants me to put it on my van. Something like "Proud Army Parent" I think. Mine should probably say Nervous Army Mama! I can't wait to tell him what you said about your husband being color blind. I think that is worrying him a bit. Beth

Thank you. I just talked to him and he is coming home today! Our oldest son is picking him up in about an hour. He will be home for a month. I can't wait to see him. Boy how things have changed this year. It has been full of ups and downs with this son. I am praying he has found his place now and will settle down and be happy.
