I love to take advantage of the sales, but also because when I was a kid this was the biggest shopping we did and I actually got new clothes!

I always loved the picking things that could go with other things to stretch two outfits into four or five!
    lol.

So now I shop for my kids , even when all were homeschooled.
I was wondering though how many take advantage of the fact they don't have to?

I am not. I do have to buy my oldest a pair of tennis shoes sometime because she doesnt have any before winter and my 10 month old son some pants but thats it. They are good on clothes otherwise.

Probably not. I will just get clothes as needed. We don't wear a lot of clothes here. Kids usually run around in their underware and I'm just in my jammies most of the time. I detest Laundry. With passion. Going around in your skivvies means 1 less shirt socks and pair of pants I have to wash!

I am going to be sad when the kids get to the age where I need to start making sure everyone is clothed appropriately :(

I don't really go school clothes shopping, per se, but I check out their closets and dressers to see what they need. I have them try stuff on, pass on what doesn't fit or what they aren't wearing anymore, and replace what is neccessary. I do get new sneakers around this time and, if needed, dress shoes. I also get socks and undies. Socks are usually pretty yucky looking after summertime. Come October I prepare to get snow boots, coats, etc. DD is about all done growning so hopefully she won't need as much as often. YAY!!!
I do go through the kids clothes again in the spring. We don't get too much of a long summer here so spending for that time of year isn't bad.

that is what we do too. Actually my son got a huge trip at old navy back in June -- they were having a HUGE sale (1/2 off or more on everything) so my mother in law bought him some shorts and we got him a bunch of shirts - then he outgrew all his jean just a few weeks later! We went to Kohls (again - a good sale) and got him a new pair and another pair of shorts. We don't really do "back to school" shopping unless one of the kids needs clothes for a specific reason.

I have in the past but no longer shop for clothing for the school year. Now I just purchase them when we need them or if we see something that stands out.

I don't shop for clothes just because school is starting. It doesn't seem to fit my kids growth spurts. I buy them clothes either when it is on a really good sale or as they outgrow them.

I try to but my spoiling mom beats me to the punch and usually buys a whole bunch of clothing. She did it over the summer and i think there were four or five outfits my daughter hasn't even worn yet.

Not really. We get most of my child's clothing at seasonal consignment sales, like the fall ones coming up soon, but I do look for store sales on shoes, underwear, plain white tee shirts (to wear under jumpers and overalls), and those kinds of things.

I also sell her outgrown clothes in seasonal consignment sales as well. Prices and styles vary wildly at these sales, but the last two years spent about $100 for the entire year on average for her clothes after selling what we had, and that is including items I bought items from stores, like four pairs of new shoes. I end up with at least one laundry basket fully loaded with clothes each spring and autumn. You should see how many things are in her closet and drawers! I tend to over buy in case things don't fit as well as I hoped since we cannot try them on and I tend to buy some things in the next size up also.

My daughter does not care if she gets "new" clothes from a store. She is quite happy if it is "new" to her, thankfully. She also knows we can get a heap (literally) more that way and that I am more likely to cave in for a dress or fancy outfit at $3 than one at $30.

I never really did school shopping when my children were in school. If things are on sale, then I will. But the sales here usually seem not worth it. My oldest is sooo skinny. He is 5'5 and 95-98 pounds. They seem to never have slims in stock when they have sales. The younger children, most of their clothes come from Walmart and Target, which does not really have much for sales. My daughter shops in the women's sections now, so not much for her either as far as sales go.

I do buy supplies and such now. I try to de-emphasize the whole public school is starting thing though.

Last year (our first HS year) when we shopped some of the sales a few days before school was starting for everybody else, my DH referred to our shopping as "Back to Homeschool Shopping" LOL!

We never really went "school clothes" shopping because we get clothes through the year as needed. We usually shop online at JCP. When we go to the city we have stopped at JCP but I prefer to clothes shop online. I don't like hunting on racks and piles of folded cargo pants looking for the perfect size. Online, just point and click and my shopping experience is over within minutes. LOL

We don't there isn't a real need to. We buy clothes when we need to get them for them. Their favorite things are the t-shirts my dh finds them at the thrift stores that they can just hang out in and be comfortable.

Don't have time to read responses, but... we do clothes shop, but not usually when everyone else does. We'll wait until after the rush, when everything goes on clearance, and buy clothes then!!

Plus there's a free clothes closet in town and we make good use of that. ;)

okay, now there reason we started, somthing to think about... we like clothes shopping and here there are usuallly amazing sales. Plus the first day of school parents tend to take pictures, mine did, and so we do too. then as we grew ( the kids not me haha) They noticed the kids at church and in the neighborhood got new clothes for school and asked if they get some too. Or they would hear thier friends talking about going 'school shopping' etc. it just seemed like a nice thing to do and since they tend to grow over the summer fall is a good time for new jeans. Shoes are trashed over summer with hiking and waterfalls so fall is good for shoes... I don't get coats here so we dont worry about that, we just get jackets and hoodies if they are on sale.

Dd going out to school this year I figured she would need a couple of new outfits, with her its any reason is good hahah.

For me it is exciting because I looked forward to school shopping as I mentioned at the start of the thread and it seemed as if I personally was missing out on something if I didn't get to take my kids out with the crowds... maybe I live in the right state after all? Lol!

I can rarely get the boys to try anything on...or last in the stores for more than a few minutes...I usually get them what they need as they need it. They just don't care.

    Just a side note:

Today my husband overheard a conversation between a married couple with four boys. The mother wanted one of the boys to get new tennis shoes for school. The father asked about the last shoes he had gotten just a month ago, if they still fit, were in good shape, and so forth. The boy said that they fit and he had hardly worn them as he was wearing his older pair for playing outside. The conversation progressed revealing that the mother wanted brand new shoes for all of them, even though all of them had new ones within the last three months. Her reason was that she wanted them to have all new clothes to wear for the first day of school.

At times like this I think our entire society is too wrapped up in the whole "school" thing.

I wait till thier shoes ( and mine) re litterallly holey and falling apart, I dont want to buy any but one pair ad this timeof year is usually good for finding them clearanced.

We don't school shop either. We buy when they need clothes. Usually at thrift stores. Summer we just cut off the girls jeans and make them into capris or long shorts. We cut the sleeves off the shirts (the ones that look like a t-shirt with a long sleeve under them)and make them work for the summer. You can't even tell that they were ever long sleeve either. I try to buy at the end of the seasons for the next year to save $$ if we do happen to shop for brand new clothes. K-Mart is the best place to find those seasonal sales. I can live with shorts and shirts for $1 each or jackets for $5. But as far as back to school shopping goes,we don't do that. I wait until school supplies go on sale at walmart and stock up then. I would like to let the kids pick out one "special" supply this year though. Just to make it more exciting to start school back up.
