Do any of you have class rings made for your children when they are in high school or plan to in the future for those with young kids? Crystal will be in 11th grade and we are thinking about a class ring for Christmas this year. I will let her help pick it out so it won't be a surprise, but I wouldn't want to design it without her there. Do you think it would be better to wait until senior year? Any thoughts on it? I think the public school here orders them in 11th grade. Beth
I don't plan on it at all. Though I still have mine. Maybe I will give it to Rachael (but then, what will I do for the other two?)
I am not a jewelry person so I don't wear any at all. Not even my wedding rings. I just don't care for it, but I do have on a thread bracelet Emily bought me on her beach trip. Crystal loves rings and pretty much all jewelry. I would like for her to get her birthstone in a class ring, but it will be up to her to choose what she likes.
Before I was engaged, I wore two rings ALWAYS. One was my class ring, the other a very small silver-and-turquois ring I bought from some Native Americans at Four Corners. I removed them for my engagement ring. Both are in my jewelry box.
We didn't order class rings for our oldest, nor will we with the others. However, where we are at, they are generally ordered in the 11th grade. I do know several hs families that purchase class rings for their dc. LR
That is something I never thought about! I don't know why, because for us growing up, getting our class rings was a big deal. Mine was even more special to me because my mom's class designed it when she was in school. I lost it when the older kids were little. Jackie - I also had to special rings - my class ring and a birthstone ring that my grandmother gave me when I turned 13. She did one for each of us when we reached that age. That one I lost when I was in Germany. Our wedding rings we bought in Denmark but I had to take mine off when I was preggo with Joyce and haven't been able to wear it since.
I hadn't really thought about it, but if she loves jewelry so much I think that might be very special. And you can get them with a birthstone or a symbol (academic/interests). I paid for my band trip instead of buying a class ring, and sometimes shortly after I thought that might have been nice to have the ring. (Although no regrets because the band trip was awesome!) lol My husband wore his class ring even after we were married- so I know for some there is a special meaning. Maybe we will be thinking this through ourselves in a couple of years! Oh, and ours was ordered at the end of 11th grade. MT3
Yes, we had graduation rings made. They worked hard and deserved it and wanted them. We had them made at Zales. They said homeschool and they got to pick the designs on them. They were proud of their homeschool class rings and showed them to everyone.
Beth we are ordering one for our dd too, she will get hers for her birthday this year. We are ordering it from Wal Mart, like Amy said.
We plan on doing it next year for our dd too. I think that we will be going to walmart. I like my jewelry and so does dd.
I lost mine but I loved it so much. I fully intend on ordering one for each child but I am going to try to make it a surprise (well at least for the first one). I got my class ring (in 1991) from Jostens and loved it so I think I will look there for the kids.
Ems is still a bit away from graduating but I have thought about getting her a class ring when the time comes.
Abeka Academy offered class rings to the students enrolled in the accredited program. My boys were not interested in a class ring as they don't really care for jewelry. They weren't offering the class rings to the non-accredited program which I felt was unfair, the difference being they don't keep the records for non-accredited and credited they keep the records. Either way, the high school student is enrolled in Abeka Academy and their parents are paying a lot for them to be enrolled. Anyway, even though their decision did not affect us, I wrote a letter requesting that they considering changing their policy due to it being unfair to the kids who are working just as hard in the non-accredited program. They wrote me back and said they received an overwhelming amount of letters and they were going to offer it to both groups. Yay! http://www.ringcompany.com/RingInfo.aspx?Ring_Type=003&Menu_ID=1 Here is a link to general homeschool class rings.
Wow! Good for you Mamabear!!! I don't know if we will be going through abeka or walmart. Next year we will decide, it may just come down to price.
