Another thing to consider with your daughter is dual credit courses at the community college. You'll have to see how your community college works, but at our college, kids can start taking courses as young as 16. If they place into college level reading and writing they can take things like writing, psychology, P.E., etc and get high school AND college credit for them. If she takes a class or two each semester your child can start out 1 or 2 semesters ahead when they start college.

    Just something to think about!

Thanks ediesbeads and everyone else for your advice, curriculum, ideas, etc. I have been writing every bit of it down and finding it very helpful!

As far as adding an elective, I've found something called "Drawing: A Complete Course" in my Rainbow Resource book that looks pretty good and is under $20. I'll have my daughter look at it first to make sure it's something she wants to do and if so, add that to the material I mentioned in my first post.

I'm also now wondering if I should add Spanish 1?

What I DON'T want to do is overload her with too much; it is not as though she doesn't have other things going on like youth group, helping me cook and clean, and hanging out with friends and living life in general.

choose something for spanish 1 that you can work slowly with , or even check out something from the library our s has some good spanish curric. See how she does wiht it and dont make her finish it all at once, kwim? Let her take her time, we are working on SOS secondary spanish here and I have not even done one whole lesson, I have to regenerate my lessons , but the cool thing is that I can do that.
SOS has lesson recalculators that does it all for you. YOu just set when you want it completed by and it sets it up day by day. They have a Spanish 1 and 2 as well.
Dd is taking spanish 2 this year.

Seeing what they have at the library sounds like a good idea. I wish ours taught it but I looked it up and it doesn't look like they do.

I did some SOS on our older computer last year but it doesn't work well at all anymore. Can you use SOS on a 64-bit computer because it wouldn't work on here last year.

Re the SOS 64 bit, try the online assistance, they have certain requirements for differnt years that are nto there for other years I have found. I had a really old toshiba that I just had the techie guy talk me through making some adjustments to settings and it worked for us then.. so you never know go on to thier web site and submit a question ... it couldn't hurt?
We also had to restore dds once this year when a patch they sent did something or I did something trying to do what it said lol

lol kk and thanks for the advice. I'll ask and see. Rosetta Stone has always appealed to me but the price is just too much considering all of the other money I'm having to spend. SOS would be plenty okay with me price-wise.

We looked at the sample of Rosetta stone and for us it didn't work, dd is talking spanish all over the place after taking the one year of Secondary, so I can only imagine what she will be doing after year two of Spanish...

I would like to suggest that you get older editions of these books on Amazon. They are barely different from the newer editions but you will save a lot of money.

I agree with this. My son got a drawing pad last year and he loves it. He's been asking for Corel Painter for a long time but I have been waiting to use my academic discount at academic superstore so I can get half off. It is way expenisve.

On the subject of Computer Graphics, I found online websites of school teachers and contacted the one with the best website. He said students wanting to learn Computer Graphics should learn Adobe Illustrator - so that is what I will hopefully buy for my son. I have not checked the price, but it could be better than Corel Paint

Yes, Adobe Illuistrator another great program!

BTW guys - I hope everyone knows that homeschool parents can get academic discounts on almost all software at the Academic Superstore.

    http://www.academicsuperstore.com/

It comes out to like $300 in savings for Corel Painter...that's quite a bit!

Textbooks for all subjects have older editions and newer editions tend to be always harshly overpriced.

At the risk of sounding like a doofus  when you say drawing pad are you talking about something that is for the computer or just a good old fashioned drawing pad with plain white paper?

I looked up Corel Paint on Amazon because I had never heard of it before and they do have one for $50 but it is used, in case you are interested - Looking at it I'm not sure if that is something my daughter would like.

drawing pad is a mat that looks like a mouse pad, but you use a special mouse pencil thing and can draw with it, my mom used these and 'left one' to my son if we ever find where she left it! HA!
