Hi, I'm Chuck from Louisiana. I've started teaching my 3.5 year old daughter to read recently with the hopes of giving her a headstart when she starts school. We are planning on sending our daughter to school but we also plan on supplementing what she is learning with additional instruction at home. After a month of 'playing school' my daughter is able to recall and pronounce the sounds of 15 different letters. She is able to sound out about 30-40 three to four letter words. To say I'm excited would be an understatement! The road can be somewhat rocky at times so I hope to be able to ask a few questions on the forums from those who have already walked this path!
Welcome. You sound like you are having a blast with your daughter. Be careful! Watching your child learn at home can be addictive and before you know it you will be thinking home schooling sounds pretty cool. Glad you joined us. Beth
Welcome! I joke that when my twins can read anything they pick up I'm going to print myself a big ole' certificate and frame it for all to see! Teaching someone to read has been my biggest challenge so far. Mostly because I over think it and worry way to much!
Welcome Chuck. Enjoy your combined achievements... you never know, you might even want to do it fulltime one day. At least you know it's an option if public or private school don't work as you hoped.
Momto3wifeto1 I see you are using Math U See. That is excellent for Math Ring Around the Phonics makes teaching Reading and Phonics fun and easy.
