We go this week to look at a house. It is 3 bed/1 bath on 4.22 acres for only $14,000.

If we could get out of the city that would be awesome. it has enough room to spread out and start a hobby farm (fresh produce/chickens). I hope all goes well. House needs a few patches in the dry wall but looks great.

    :D:!::D

I was thinking that SAME thing...an especially great deal if it doesn't need that much work! Good for you!

after looking at the pictures it just looks like drywall patches where like the bottoms got damaged when they moved.

I'm so excited. Especially since our house is worth so much more we could pay it all off! We are renting to my mother in law probably for the first year or so then selling it to her.

We'd like to put solar panels up on the roof to take care of the electricity needs and then a green house and large garage up for the other needs.

    I hope it works out!

WOW! That price is AWESOME!! I wish that I could find anything....and I mean ANYTHING around here for that price. Even the land with no buildings on it way out in no-mans land is hundreds of thousands of dollars around here. Maybe someday we will move out into the country, but my husband is doing really well in his job (just got hired on full time) and with this economy we are staying put for now. Lucky you!!

Minthia you'll get your chance. I actually found the listing through craigslist and I contacted the agent. She was really nice.

WOW!!! That is an unbelievable price! I wish we could find something like that here in AK. We are looking at land right now that costs more than that.

wow! that sounds too good! have you been there? did you say to the agent " it is 14,000, not 140,000??" LOL. Here an acre sells for $3,000-7,000! My grandma sold her 40 acres of farm land for $7xxx per acre! Most plots sell for about $4xxx/acre here! Where in this great country is land that cheap?? Maybe we need to move there, lol!

Se the cheapest I found an acre is about $1,700 in ohio but that is because it was a swamp...lol

I confirmed the price with her and it is $14,000. We go most likely tomorrow morning or Saturday morning to look at it.

We are in ohio and trust me this was a weird find seeing how most houses with only 1 or 2 acres goes for almost $50,000.

Now we will be 1 hour 46 min from where we currrently live and about 1 30 min from cleveland and pittsburg PA. We are in the middle of nowhere.

I am so jealous! In all reality I would love to live far away from the city out on a farm or ranch. Even if we did find a killer deal around here it wouldn't be worth the gas money for my dh to commute. His truck is getting 8-9 average. Of course if we found a really good deal like $14K then it would be worth it. I wish it were possible right now to move, but this is not the season in my life for farming. ;) Maybe someday I will have to come out that way and live.

I wish we could find an acre for $7000! most of the land around here is a minimum of $150K for 1/4 of an acre. Yikes! We can't even afford to buy anything in our area. We are currently renting a house from my dh's grandma, but the rent we pay is nearly $1700 a month and that is a GREAT deal around here.

We are in the beginning stages of buying a house. We are very excited, I can't wait until we are to the point of going to look at houses. Of course ours are not 14,000 here they are more like 150 -200,000 but we're happy because this is a low right now around here.

But that's a great deal and good luck with it!!! Let us know how it goes!!!

A good real estate agent will be able to find you some uber cheap houses, if you are willing to do a little up keep and don't mind foreclosures. We paid 48k for our first house which was appraised at 69k.

Wow, that's amazing!! I love your plan, but why do you call it "hobby farming" instead of 'homesteading"? Do you read Backwoods Home Magazine? I love that magazine but we'll never live that life. My hubby enjoys city amenities too much!

For other people wondering where cheap land/houses are, the "southern tier" of NY State is REALLY cheap, because there are no jobs.
