We've had our puppy for about 6 mos now & I thought she was doing well at pottying outside. Our the last couple of weeks, I've discovered that she's been going some in my son's room-on the carpet. He never told us about any wet spots, so it was never clened. DH and I used soapy water to clean the entire surface area, and it seemed to elminate the smell. Then it came back. So I bought some enzyme pet odor stuff, and although it smells good, it didnt last. Does anyone know anything that will get rid of the smell? Taking the carpet/pad out is not an option.

We have used ZorbX for pet odors and it seems to work well on fabric. I guess it would work on carpet too. We don't have carpet so I can't be sure. I think it came from Lowes or Walmart.

I used just straight vinegar and it took the smell out. (We have a dog that likes to tinkle on our curtains.... not sure why though... but vinegar takes the smell out.)

Did you use apple cider or white vinegar? I have a deck that has an odor that I would love to get rid of.

I use white vinegar and spray it on the spot then I let it sit before washing that area.

White vinegar takes out pet smell. It also can be used as fabric softner and a bathroom cleaner. We stopped using harsh chemicals and just use white vinegar now.

Also try keeping the door closed when no one is in the room to supervise the dog. My parents had three dogs and they use a baby gate on the stairs to keep them from going upstairs when they are not at home.

For us, the best thing that has worked with this is a Rug Doctor product made just for pet stains/odors. It's usually located where you rent the rug doctor steam cleaner, BUT, it is not for use in a steam cleaner. It's a spot cleaner.

As for that musty-doggie odor a room/couch can sometimes get coz' it's Fiddo's favorite place, Carpet Fresh has a wonderful foaming spray for carpets and fabrics. Look for the blue lid.

Especially since it's been going on for a while, you're probably never going to get the smell out completely just by cleaning the carpet. The only way to gaurantee the smell is gone, is to pull up the carpet & padding. Even then, the smell might be in the wood underneath, as well. Then, you'd need to sand the floor & coat it with a latex based primer (like KILZ). My dh used to work in restoration (fire, water damage, etc.) and had to deal with problems like this a lot.

I used Mr. Clean instead of the Rug Doctor that I usually use and for the most part, the tinkle odor came out.

My mom's dog, actually my dog now, seems like she is trained then all of a sudden she is back to her old habits. She is now outside or in the crate when she comes in the house. As much as I do not like keeping her in the crate when she is inside, I do not like my house smelling like dog tinkle.

If you find something that works, please share.
