Okay, I have this little friend, well shes nto that little, her name is Mrs Slipskirt, and she comes to "Substitute Teach" for us now and again.
Some of you have heard of her before but she is a zany lady who talks in a ... well an undiscribable accent, and she is very stern with follwoing her rules! She taps her ruller on the table if we are noisey, and she gets things mixed up for times to do what, like take out your math book and read three chapters or something like that.
She makes you raise your hand to speak, even if she asked you a question and sometimes tells you to do your reading upside down on the couch!

Just in case you are not getting the idea I created her one day when I was tired of teachign three kids and feeling frustrated and needed something to happen that was out of the ordinary. So while folding the clothes that morning.. Mrs Slipskirt was born!
She is so named because she wears jeans or shorts and a slip for a skirt on the outside. She wears her hair like Mrs Frizzel on Magic school bus, inf act she kind of influenced a few of her ideas, she talks a but like Jo from SuperNanny, but not quite.
She arrived at the front door, I snuck otu and knocked on the door for the kids to answer not knowing I was out there ( be sure and instruct your children that a sub is coming because you "just can't teach today becasue ---- invent your reason!
Mrs Slipskirt calls the kids by strange names, forgetting their names with such a big class and all..
She tells them to take out thier books for whatever class as if she were in a huge classroom full of kids, but just the kids are there.

Warning! Mrs slipskirt causes children to gigle over math , because she gets the wrong answer on teh whiteboard, and the kids have to come help her becuase she gets befussled.. she has kids take recess in the middle of reading occasionally too! She also lets them do school work under thier beds with a flashlight! or under the kitchen table! OH my!
MRs slipskirt is well loved by my kids though, so we invite her back occasionally. Not as often as in the past because they have grown out of needing such a thing.

One other really fun thing is when I return to myself at 3 pm, or when they are done, I act like I was not here all day and they have to tell me what they did and stuff, ( good review on lessons that way in a fun way)

I hope that Mrs Slipskirt or who ever you choose to name yoru SUB will visit your class, she loves new years because thigns are not so rigid yet!

Have you not, seriously? All this time, I'd just assumed that's where you'd gotten the idea! Definately go find it; it's an elementary school classic, and definately on our list this year. ;)

We had a sub here too on some days. She was rather frazzled as well, and the kids had to explain things to her. She often MADE them eat icecream FIRST for lunch so they could have their vegetables (instead of the other way around)! Her name was Miss Gretchen, and she often got things backwards like that! I actually started that when my ds was in 2nd grade. He'd had a rough 1st grade teacher, so I started homeschooling. But I had to coax him back from hating school and learning, so that's when Miss Gretchen arrived!

Funny TMom how we moved the same direction to change up some of the days! It really changes the mood to one of fun and expectancy from one of boredom and dread and crabbiness! So yeah, ya'll, find something like this that works for you and change it up, make it fun! It makes for great memories too!
