I am planning next years curriculum(yes, all ready, lol)and I am thinking of using this for history. My girls will be doing 1st and 2nd grade next year.I am trying to use things that they both can use.
I would just like some imput from those who have used SOTW.Is it pretty detailed?Too dull?Does it work well when used with more than one student?
    Thanks for your input:)

I like story of the world because it tells stories in a story form so it keeps the interest for even older kids. However, the chapters are really short and you'll have to pull more information from other sources to complete the lesson and give more information. But there are plenty of activities that you can do as well.

For the grades you are talking about SOTW is wonderful!!! THe activity book is a MUST. You kids will LOVE history with that activity book. In fact, my kids were a bit too old for SOTW when I got it...but they loved the activity book. You may want to supplement the text with some historical fiction or some history shows...maybe...depends on the kid.

Thank you:) Sounds like it will work well for them next year.As they get older,I want something with more "meat"but while they are young,I'm trying to make as many subjects as I can fun for them.

I think it would work for a 4th grader. My oldest dd who is 14 read her whole book in one day because she liked it so much. Granted we fill it in with other stuff but the series is what caught her interest in history. She now spouts off all kinds of random stuff.

Yes it is totally a great program for your children's ages, you can start with book 1 and go all the way through them! There is a text ( reading book) and the Activity books have all that you need to complete a really great lesson, more than you need really! So you can pick and choose what works best for you!

Will I only need the one activity book to use with both girls?

If your going to do one book at time with both girls, that I think one activity book would do and you could make copy each for the test booklet and the activity book and have enough for both children.

I used it and the kids enjoyed it pretty well (they hated regular history stuff). We got 2 workbooks and they each colored while I read. I could have scanned and copied them out of one, but it was easier for me just to buy 2 books. :)
Hope it goes well for you!

I have to say I also loved the geography in it! Totally helped my son to see where this portion of history was taking place that we studied!

We are really enjoying the Story of the World. We are on book 2. We have friends who are starting the series for the third time. They simply make the projects harder and do more research on the lessons as their kids have gotten older.
