My 15 yo is driving me nuts! I have to tell her over and over to do things and she still does not do them at times. I told her to clean her room three times and she half did it each time, sooooo she gets to stay in her room all day today; no tv, no music, no cell phone. See how that works for her on her day out of school today.

I stress to her the importance of obedience and following directions and it seems like its going in one ear and out the other. Grrrr

I am old school and when my mom told me to do something, i did it. Not because I was such a good teen, but to keep the peace and to KEEP my privileges, my dd doesn't seem to fear or think of these consequences.

Anyone else out there with a teen like this?

I don't have that exact problem right now, but in the past I have dealt with teenagers who never took me seriously when I said to do something. It is so frustrating!
(I thought this sounded a little odd so I wanted to add that we were foster parents and had lots of teenagers in our home over the years.)

Yup! Been there, done that with older two, and now going through the beginning stages of it with pre-teen.

I sometimes feel it's like having toddlers all over again since I feel I have to be firm in my boundries as they try to test and push.

But, I also recall the hormones and feelings of that age of being between a child and adult too. So, even though we have consequences for actions, there are also rewards too. They earn a little more freedom too.

Examples...if dear darling son didn't clean his room, then I would.....'course, my idea of cleaning is a large garbage bag. (I'm very creative with consequences) After all, he must have too much stuff to be able to take care of it all properly.

Privledges or rewards are EARNING later bedtime, special outings like the "Teen back to school bash" at the community center, or such. If he/she is the one picked to help me with groceries and errands, we might make a special stop at Dairy Queen or so.

In the meantime, buy some bubblebath for those really bad days!

Well Missy just came into my room and asked me if she got a call from one of her friends. She's invited to the movies. See this is where I get into grey area, cuz I'll probably let her go. -lol

UGH! I hate things like this! It hits so close to home. Sam is typically a good kid but she can have her moments when I want to smack her. She tend to use her mouth more than her ears. I really like for her to go out and do things and experience things and enjoy her friends so I usually always say yes to things she gets invited to. One time though she got invited to go see a midnight showing of some movie and she had been such a brat for two weeks I just said no way and told her why. She was very upset but I told her it wasn't my fault but hers. Guess what - she was the best thing for the next month. Really changed her attitude.

    Good luck!

She just came back into the room and EXPLAINED that she's been working so hard in school this week. I had to remind her that this is what she is supposed to do! Spending what I do for her to go to this prep school I expect her to do it. Working hard for school has nothing to do with what she is expected to do at home. I reminded her that she is blessed to have a room and one to herself!

I'll probably let her go because it is a long weekend and she hasn't been out in a while. But I'll let her sweat it for a lil while. -lol

Hey I let Sam sweat isome this week as well. She was invited to go to a friend's beach house for the weekend. Basically she'd get to hang around the beach and pool all weekend with 3 of her friends. I knew she'd love to go even though we had other plans. Because of her mouth I let her sweat it for two days. Now she is getting to go. Dh and dd6 are leaving today, I am dropping dd13 off tonight after the football game and I am meeting up with dh and dd6 tomorrow.
