So we started on August 10th. This is our fourth week of school and we've done well! The kids are getting in a groove, and don't complain too much about the seat work. We have a nice little daily routine. Next week is a bugger though...

We have Monday off for Labor Day. DH is off and the Grandparents will be here, so school on Monday is completely out!

Wednesday evening I set up for my Jewelry Booth at the Corn Festival! Then Thursday through Saturday is the actual Fest. I already told the kids they would have Thursday and Friday off school due to the Fest. I'm going to be busy setting up and prepping Wednesday, so I know I'll be totally distracted that day...

So hmmmmm.... that leaves Tuesday. I told the kids we'd probably do something schooly... maybe? Should I just admit that my mind isn't going to be on school this week and take it completely off and be stress free? Or should I try to get in at least a couple of subjects... Math and Spelling/Phonics maybe... on Tuesday and Wednesday?

I want to be a good Mom here, what's the best option in your opinion?

    Edie

I think I would give them the week off more or less. Maybe a trip to the library on Tuesday so that they have some reading materials to keep them busy when there is nothing else to do. I wish you the best!

Your kids can still be learning schooly stuff with helping you set up for the festival, counting back change, etc. Let them help you. Sounds like fun!

Taking the week off will be just fine. I often take school breaks as it suits our family...so go for it! If it will make you feel better just have them keep up on some reading and math...maybe about 45 mintues a day and leave it at that. All our learning is not done in school! It was Mark Twain who said that school got in the way of education...wait...was that him....geesh...we had that a copywork last year..LOL..oh well..you get the idea.

I can relate. I am going to my Mom's and will not be back until Wed then on Friday I have to be at new member orientation for our co-op (I get to work nursery and play with babies yeah) plus that night is our group's picnic. Thursday would be the only day we could offically have school but I am just taking the entire week off. It will be easier on us.

My sister just had her third baby this week so we will be taking 2 weeks off to go to Illinois so that I can hep her out. So don't feel bad. This is part of the reason I homeschool, so we can have the freedom to do things througout the year. :)

I would take the week off and enjoy it. By including the kids in the process of setting up and running a booth you are teaching them! Real life is full of valuable lessons. Hope you do very well.

I wouldn't worry at all about taking time off. We began the second week of June and I bet we did about 6 weeks and then took 2 weeks off. You can tell when you need a break and thankfully because we homeschool we can do it when we need too. We will be getting back to work on Tuesday and will probably go the rest of the month and then take another week off.

Well our week is going well. We took Monday off. We did Math and a trip to the library Tuesday. Today we are doing Math and the kids are reading their library books independently (except for my little one of course). And I have time to finish my craft fair prep! I'm so excited!!! I hope it's successful!
