Alright we are going to lapbbook some books this year and I have been looking for good nonfiction books that I can easily get from a library. Now I have gotten some books by Seymour Simon and find them very good but I need something on the vertebrate and invertebrate lines. Also some good history ones would help. The library ladies are laughing at me because I have put in requests for so many books trying to figure out the good ones to the not so good ones. So any suggestions or ideas? My kids grades run from 2-6 and I have been trying to use one book for all of them and then gearing it to their grade levels. Thanks so much!
I suggest looking at the Sonlight Core Lists...I do not use Sonlight BUT, I picked A LOT of our fiction to go with our history this year based on their Core 3 and Core 4 lists. And I hope, also, to use this next year when we do World History. You DO NOT have to buy through Sonlight....just use the list as reference. Also, for stuff for lapbooking, if you don't already know, www.homeschoolshare.com has A LOT of blank templates for things as well as lapbook stuff already for many books from FIAR series. Our library carries lots of Usbourne books on multiple topics. Usbourne's is usually pretty good. Usbourne has multiple books on each topic. Each book is geared toward a certain level and often has websites linked to the book for expanding on the topic. If you don't believe in evolution you might have to watch for it occationally with Usbourne books. Eyewitness books are good too. You should be able to use one books for both grades. They are full of information broken up into small tidbits and have lots of pictures to go with each tidbit.Again might have to watch evolutionary stuff if it bothers you. DK books are pretty good depending on the topic. I found DK books to be more broad based per book. They had good information but less inclined to be separated by grade levels. Might be too much for your 2nd grader or to easy for your 6th grader depending. Still had good information. I don't know any specific titles off hand, but your library should be able to help there. dina zikes has a lot of stuff too! and donnayoung probably does as well as AtoZ and wowthere really are a lot!
yeah I have a book now by Dina Zikes. She gives instructions on each fold including the pictures. I found it very helpful. I checked out donnayoung and perhaps I am not looking at her site right but I didn't see any lapbooking items. And soon as I hit post this reply lol I am headed over to A to Z lol.
