    Hello,

I'm new here, but I wanted to get some feedback on some issues related to homeschooling. Specifically, does anyone have any experiences in a cross-cultural setting doing homeschooling? I have a couple of friends who are missionaries with young babies, who are trying to decide right now whether or not to do homeschooling or send their kids to an MK school. What are your thoughts on this?

I am also planning in the future to go do missions stuff overseas, so I was thinking about this for myself as well. Any comments would be appreciated!

My friends who were missionaries in South America homeschooled in the beginning and used the MK school for when the kids were older.

There are lots of missionaries that homeschool...Sonlight even has "deals" for helping subsidize the cost of shipping, etc. My bro-in-laws kids all attended international type schools in Kenya or a Christian boarding school.

We have a few missionary friends who homeschool their children and a couple that send their children to an MK.

Your friend's will have to decide what is best for their families in the end. Some families are so involved with their mission work they do not have time to homeschool. Others are able to homeschool because they do have the time.

I had a friend who taught overseas, most recently in Taiwan. She has taught MK's, as well as international kids, in Taiwan, Guam, and Hong Kong. She currently teaches at a Christian school in the states. I'm sure she'd be willing to answer any of your friend's questions!

I was an MK myself who homeschooled many years. My parents sent me one year (senior year) to an MK school where I boarded with a staff family. They thought it would be good practice for college without the added stress of culture shock at the same time. It did work well for that.
My dh and I also served overseas for 5 years and we chose to homeschool those years rather than sending our kids to boarding school.
Any questions I can answer feel free to ask!
