We are getting a sitter and have 3 kids. It's for 4-5 hours. More like on the 5 hour side. How much do I pay the sitter who is 17? I pay the child watch at the gym $1 a kid per hour. That is all I have to base it off of. We use to just do sleep overs but those families are gone now. I am going to have dinner already for them because we normaly eat at 430/500. They do get to have a free for all. They can all just crash out on thecouch to a movie if they want to. They are 4,5 &9. 9 year old knows the routine and can help with that so whats the going rate. I asked the person doing the job and the reply was what ever the family feels like paying. That so doesnt help me.
If it helps I pay my sitter who is 18 $30.00 for watching my children when DH and I go out. We are usually gone about 3-4 hours and when we leave the children have already had dinner or dinner is made and they are eating, all she has to do is wipe up after dinner, play with them a bit, and put them to bed (we don't let anyone give the boys baths but us so they'll bathe in the morning). I would add that she hasn't watched the baby yet...only the older two (she's been our sitter for 2 years), but when we add the baby into the mix I will pay her more most likely I'll pay her about 45 -50.00 if she's keeping the baby as well.
When I was in Atlanta, a friend of mine paid $10/hour for her three kids. (We were near my inlaws.) I'm in rural PA now and the girls around here charge $5/hour for my 4 kids, except one girl who recently moved from Allentown (PA); she charges $10/hour. So...<shrug>
not that I have ever had a regular babysitter , but I know the going rate around here is $6-$8 a hour, but I usually pay more if they did a great job. Meaning: If they sat in front of the tv all night with no interaction, she will get $6 an hour, if she played with the kids and they love her so much they want us to stay out...she gets $10 an hour.
We pay $7/hour for our 2 kids. We pay a little more if the babysitter drives her own car instead of one of us picking her up/taking her home. We have one babysitter who just got her own car, but the other one is too young yet.
I haven't had to pay a sitter in a long time since mine are older now but I used to pay $10.00 an hour for a good sitter we had.
I've paid as much as $8/hr for one kid or $3/hr for 2 kids. I'd ask the sitter. They'll tell you what they charge.
I have found that a lot of the sitters around here who are older teens won't give a price if they know you well. They just say whatever you want to pay is okay. That is very hard for me. I never felt like I was paying enough. I hardly ever hired a sitter but did want them to be happy with what I paid them.
I asked Rachael. She babysits for Marylyn's "baby" sister Sarah twice a month for Home Group. It is at Sarah's house, and sometimes there is a third child. They pay her $10 per child, for about 3 1/2 hours work. One neighbor pays her $6/hour for two kids; another will pay her about $7/hour for one kid. Homeschooler06, I think the most I charged was $2.50/hour. That was in the late 70's. (Uh, and it was NOT...as Rachael reading over my shoulder says...1870's!!!)
I tend to pay between $8-10 for 3 kids. A lot depended on who it was (young teen, older teen, adult) and what was involved....were they sleeping, etc. I had an adult sitter that used to do my dishes and fold my laundry. I paid her VERY WELL...lol.
Around here it's usually $5-8/hour. Like someone said - it depends on what they do. Last year when we had 8 kids here from 2 families, we paid someone $30 per family (so it was $60/day)
When I was in college, I would fold laundry or wash dishes if they were laying around. Especially if the kids were in bed and no one was due home for a long time.
When I used to babysit as a teen I would make 20-30.00 per night and I always made sure the children had dinner, a bath (this was back when babysitters could bathe a kid and not get accused of abusing the child), I would play with them or make some art project and then tuck them to bed. After that I would wash the dishes, clean the table, vacuum the floor, and clean the playroom. I babysat the same two children every week and once a month the mom would give me a bonus for being so great with the kids. So each month I made 80-110.00 plus a 40-50.00 bonus at the end of the month.
I pay $2.50/hour/kid. It seems to keep the sitters happy. we are in RURAL Nebraska, in a little town they call a city. sitters here have never named a price, except the one who completely put the "sit" in Babysit. ugh. she was horrible and I used her almost all summer. why wasn't I smart enough to listen to my 3 y/o?
I used to babysit 5 boys under the age of 6 for .50 an hour. That was not for each child, that was for each hour, no matter how many children. That was in the late 60's early 70's. Any one out there remember that?
We've never used babysitters, but my children have all been babysitters. Normally they charge $8.00 per/hour for 1 child and $3.00 extra per/hour for each additional child. So.... For 3 children that would be $14.00 per/hour. LR
we live in a very rural area. i pay my sitter, who is 15 and VERY responsible, about $20 for 3 hours. usually the baby is napping the majority of the time or already put to bed, so that would be an almost 9 and 7 year old, plus a little bit with the 1 1/2 yr old. she doesnt have to feed or bathe, just keep alive we would pay more if we could. we just love her and shes worth a whole lot more to us. she sings in a christian gospel group with her mom dad sis and brother, and they are gone most weekends, so it is always during the week, but they just decided to homeschool her for high school, instead of the private christian school she went to. it makes it easier for travel. about 10 years ago when i babysat, i would get paid about the same, so im probably not paying enough
