I'm having a garage sale tomorrow and Saturday. DH and I decided, in faith, to sell both of our horrible living room sofas and our insanely uncomfortable recliner. We're also sellings tons of other things. Please pray that we make enough to buy one nice new sofa. We refuse to buy on credit, so it's important that we have the cash to cover it.
Praying here to have the money for a nice sofa. One of the things that will help things sell is to have table cloths or flat sheets on the tables. Have the items clean and spaced so people can see them. Have everything marked with a price. I have had a lot of successful garage sales and know this works. If I were closer, I would be there
I hope you sell everything and make enough to get what you need to replace it. Bravo for not buying on credit. I wish we had learned that lesson a lot sooner.
Thanks for the tips! I have a friend coming over today to help me clean and price everything. I had considered using table clothes, but that almost seemed silly (overkill?). Now I know I wasn't being strange and will use them.
I hope it goes well. And it's not a silly request at all. Also...do you have freecycle in your area? Maybe you could find something suitable for free while you save money for exactly what you want? My husband and I regret so much being in a rush and buying furniture for our house. The next time we move, we're furnishing completely from freecycle! LOL
I will say a prayer for the success of your yard sale. We have craigslist.com in our area. You can get things there for free or cheap. Sometimes it is brand new from clearing out a warehouse. The site is designated by state, then by large cities. I am in a small town but always seem to find things close to where I live after looking in the large city closest to me. Good luck.
Perhaps this is selfish of me, but every single piece of furniture we have in our home with the SOLE exception of our sons' bunkbeds was given to us used. For that reason alone, I'd really like to be able to walk into a furniture store and pick exactly what I would like to have. We've really been blessed and please don't think I'm ungrateful. In 8+ years of marraige I've literally only had to buy one bunkbed (and only one of the mattresses for it). Every table, end table, lamp, desk, rocking chair, microwave stand, bed, etc. has been given to us. I really am not trying to be a snob, but there really would be something extra nice about being able to finally pick something that is actually to my own taste. lol.
I understand what you're saying. Most things we have were given to us or bought second hand. I really wanted to have a few new things that I could pick out and buy new. One was my diningroom table. Picking out what I wanted was so much fun. (It is the school table now) Good Luck with your yard sale! Post photos of your new sofa.
Prayers here for a successful garage sale and that the Lord will make availible the perfect sofa at a perfect price!
It went fabulously yesterday! I sold stuff like crazy. I'm just a little short of my goal, but I still have one more "big ticket" item to sell. So if it sells today I'm golden. If it doesn't, I'll Craig's list it this week and try to sell it that way. I don't mind to put in a little to make up the difference, but I'd really rather not as the goal was to not have to spend more than I made, but we'll see. I really can't believe how well things went yesterday. I've never seen that many people shopping at a sale. I mean, I'm in a good location and all, but it was obvious the Lord was helping us. I have so little left that I almost called it off for today, for fear of it looking too bare out there. But another friend is bringing a bunch of stuff this morning so we can "restock" lol.
Well, we were rained out today. We barely got set up before it started pouring. Wasn't even in the forecast. lol. DH and I decided that we can't go too much longer without any seating (and we sold it all) so I spent the day shopping around. Funny thing is, after 5 stores and countless sofas, I ended up buying the very first one I saw at the first store I went to. It was literally right in front of the doors when I walked it. It was the best price on anything I liked and it came with the Loveseat. I'm not usually a big fan of green, but I think it is so dark it doesn't really look "green." DH is picking it up right now. I didn't have to put too much in to make the difference, and I'm going to be Craig's Listing several items this week, so I should be able to pay myself back. If not, I'm still very happy that the sale paid for nearly all of it.
Wow, the Lord is good!!! So glad to hear the sale went well. I'm sure things will go on Craigslist. They seem to in our area.
Amen! I'm so glad the God who created the Universe cares enough about our human wants to listen when we pray about them.
