It started with all my international travel. Visiting some countries, in Asia in particular, I realized they have respect for even the tiniest of creatures. Back home, this made me much less willing to simply squish a bug as it crawled across the floor. More recently, I encouraged my children to watch a nature series about life in the undergrowth. Since then, my oldest son, in particular, has become fascinated with spiders and is pointing out webs and social spiders all the time. This morning, just as I finished loading the dishwasher, I noticed a spider crawling into the washer. At first, I closed the door and started the cycle, but then my conscience got to me. Opening the door, the spider was right there, near the front opening. It just wouldn't come out, so I tried to encourage it out with a plastic spatula. It fell to the bottom, and I couldn't be totally sure it came out. Since I couldn't see it any more, though, I assumed it was safe and restarted the wash cycle. I wonder how long it will be before I feel guilty about killing mosquitoes. In their case, probably never!
Steve, I think you have a SERIOUS problem!!! LOL! ANY bug INSIDE my house is probably DEAD MEAT!!! OK, I will make exceptions. I MIGHT take a Lady Bug outside. If I were to find something like a Praying Mantis (highly unlikely), I would take it out. But SPIDERS I will not tolerate AT ALL!!! I figure any bug that crawls into the spider's lair is in trouble, so it's only fair to destroy any spider that crawls into mine!!!
I have spider nightmares after living in my aunt and uncles basemnt........ with hobo spiders, jumping spiders and brown recluse. then we moved here with teranchulas.......... I've seen baby ones in our bathroom. and I am not going to let any spider touch MY favorite kitchen spatulas. Steve you have such a kind heart.............. kill the spiders your wife will love you for it.
I'm going to have to take Steve's side, to some degree, on this one. First, I had a pet tarantula for years and I loved her quite a lot. She was great fun. Second, when we moved in to our home, we had a serious problem with ants and grain months. We fought an unwinnable war with them for years. Then the spiders came.... we've been winning that fight ever since. I'd certainly rather have spiders than grain moths. We certainly don't have an "infestation" of spiders, but I allow the few I find to live so they can take care of the other, less desirable bugs.
sorry Steve, but any spider that comes in my house is just asking to be squished...or eaten by my very capable bug hunting cats . I can't stand spiders...though most other bugs don't bother me too much. Crickets I will take outside, and lady bugs, but spiders, scorpions, ants, moths, and flies are just asking for it by coming in.
I dislike little creatures with more than 4 legs. Spiders make me shudder....but those silverfish bugs make me scream and run around the house looking for a big shoe. SQUISH.
