Kevin got his name cause all the Kevins I knew were cute and popular, lol.
Jeannie's name came from a friend that apologized for something she feels she did wrong to me over 30 years ago. That took guts, in my opinion.
I really wanted Jeannie to be Lucy, or Lily, or Claire. I still think she looks like a Lucy!

    Interesting thread......
My hubby and I were trying to think up a good name for our son before he was born. I had a list of about 18 names that I liked. We were also interested in naming our son a name that had something to do with my husband's heritage. I looked up the meanings of the names and thought long and hard about some. One night hubby and I were out at a local water ski show and the announcer kept saying the name of a skier every time he performed an act. It was the same name I had on my mind for naming our son. I asked my husband then and there about that name and he agreed! The name fits our son and my hubby's heritage.

Naming our dd was a bit harder in some ways. Part of dd's name comes from a derivation of my grandmother's name. The other part of dd's name has a weird story to it. Growing up I watched "Family Ties" and so did my husband. There was character on that show for a year or two that I just loved. I also loved the name of the character. I wrote it down in my journal (back in '87) about how one day I would name my daughter that. When I knew my hubby and I were going to have a girl I talked to dh about the name from "Family Ties". He loved the idea! I went back and forth about that particular name though. I thought of a whole list of names (including Claire, Allison and Sydney) just in case the "Family Ties" name didn't fit. On the morning dd was born I just wasn't sure if I wanted to name her that, but I did almost a day later. I'm glad I did. She fits her name beautifully. Of course, my dd says she hates her name and wants to change it when she is older. That's just her though....she's 5.

DD #1: My dh mentioned the name and I rejected it. Then after so many months I offered up the same name as if I never heard it before. I really don't remember him mentioning it....I have no brain when I am pregnant. lol. Anyway, her name means peace and she did bring peace to a situation going on between my parents and me at the time. Her middle name was chosen because it means praying continually and I liked the sound of it.

DS: We picked one of the few boy's names we could agree on. It means light bringer and is a biblical name....which meaning was something we wanted also. His middle name was picked by me because I liked the meaning.

DD #2: My dh, mom, and ds, all loved her name. I didn't care for it a bunch. BUt after months of confusion I gave in. The name fits her and I like it now. Her middle name both my dh and I loved. It also means intelligence.

DD #3: I picked her first and middle name. her middle name is meaningful to me. It means "God is willing." Her first name I chose on the fly because I liked it. It was only later I found out the meaning and loved that also...but oddly I can't remember it now...LOL...something like friend or dear one?? LOL.

I birthed my first child, a girl, and named her a variation of a close family friend I'd hero-worshiped as a child, and it was a bit unusual but not "way out there". Her middle name was harder to find, but then I found out that Dawn means "a gift", so that was that. The first name has constantly through the years been mispronounced, misspelled, and mistaken for other more common names... not so much since she's an adult, though.

We adopted our second child, a boy, and we kept his first name because he was already two and a half and used to hearing it and we liked it okay. We couldn't agree on a middle name. DH wanted to name him after dh's grandfather (Morris -- not my favorite name in the whole world, but I didn't actually hate it, so to be agreeable....) and I wanted to use dh's middle name, which is pretty common both as a first or a middle name -- so we "compromised" and used both!!! So ds grew up with two middle names. He never liked having two middle names, especially when we'd get mad at him and call him by all four names.

DD named her daughter Abbey after the Beatles' Abbey Road album that both she and her dh really really like, and it sounds like Abbie/Abby, so I'm sure it'll get misspelled all through her life too. Middle name Rose. DD calls her "my little hippie flower child" because of settling on this name. It's so cute to ask her "what's your name" and she says "Abbey Wose".

DS's first son they debated over various choices and settled on Jonathan, because it's a good strong sounding name, and it's Biblical, although I'm not sure that had much to do with it. Middle name James, after his father's middle, and her father's first, and her brother's middle, and another uncle of hers on the other side, and my brother's middle.... and of course, ds's "second middle" name too. The second son they debated over for quite awhile, but in the end ds prevailed and they named him first, middle and last after dh's father, whom ds had never met because he died long ago.

I wanted to name my daughter Victoria Anastasia and call her Vickey, however upon hearing that my Mother informed me that I would NOT be calling my child Vickey. Apparently my Father used to date a girl named Vickey - 40 YEARS AGO! HELLO! Let it go woman! Therefore, I named her Jessica (after Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote - lol) and her middle name is Ann which is both my mother's and my husband's mother's middle name.

We just went through a baby book mostly. My husband really wanted to name one of our boys Paul after his dad. However, I was not particularly thrilled with his dad and didn't want to be reminded of him every time I looked at my son. Besides - his sister named her son Paul, so there would be two cousins with the same name. So - I insisted on other names, which meant we couldn't use any family names at all.

My husband's best friend is named David, so he wanted one of hte boys to be David. I wanted them both to start with the same letter. Thus - Davy and Daryl!

My oldest son's name came from Star trek TNG. I am a treky.(sp?) His name is Jayden.

There is a story behind my youngest son's name. Wanna hear! GREAT! Oh I just love telling this store. Iv'e got more too! Anyway.

My youngest sons name actually came to me in a dream. About two months before I found out I was pregnant, I had a dream about a male child around 2 running and playing with my older son. Everyone called him Omari. So naturally when I found out I was pregnant with a boy, I named him Omari. When he turned 2, we were all sitting in the park and the boys were running around. I look up and literally saw a replay of my dream. Same clothes, same park everything was the same.My mother was yelling Omari come here, just like in my dream. I then realized that he was the same child in my dream. Creepy but true and no one believes me.

I never said it was a main character. LOL. It was on the episode where Data was lost on a planet. I can't remember the name of the episode. Anyway, there was a little girl there and she named him Jayden. In the end, I think they tried to kill Data or something like that because people started to get sick. They blamed it on him, but it turned out is was him. Something about radiation from the crash. I can't remember, it's been at least 6 years since I have seen that particular episode. Thanks 1mom04!

    Mackenzie Arlene =

I have always loved the name Mackenzie, ever since I could remember. When I found out I was having a girl . . . Mackenzie it was.

Arlene. My mom passed away when I was just 17. A lady from our church kind of stepped up and became my mom. She would take me to mother daughter banquets for church and all other kind of events. I knew when I had a daughter she would somehow be named after her.

So, I came up with Mackenzie Arlene. I love how it's a mixture of modern and old fashioned names.

We used a baby book for Brody's first name, changed our minds about a hundred times before he was born (we knew he was a boy). Decided we didn't want to leave out either grandfather so he ended up being Brody Robert Bruce. And our last name is VERY Scottish so I keep expecting him to burst out with "Freeeeeeeeedom!" one of these days, lol.
