I typically don't watch Leno much because he was on so late, but got a chance to watch his new earlier show. He had someone who I assume was calling himself a comedian. And he was talking about year books and said something like you can find your name alphabetically..."and if you're homeschooled, well I just feel sorry for you". It just ticks me off because 1) it was stupid, there wasn't a punch line, nothing, just stupid. 2) how come it is funny to make fun of children?? I just don't get this! Thankfully my children weren't watching but what if others were, especially teens, it would hurt their feelings I'm sure. I just don't get this! It's ridiculous! Sorry I needed to rant!
When I went back to the main page, it said "I hate homeschooling..." rofl...that'll get everyone's attention huh?!
I don't hate the "jokes" because I see them no different then people teasing me because I am blonde. Stupid, yes, but people are going to do it no matter what I say, so why get worked up over it? What I do hate is people who are not educated in what homeschooling really is to make blanket statements and call them the "truth"
Let it roll off your back. Some people only show their own stupidity when they say ridiculous things like that.
I'm not easily offended, but I do think that comedians need to pick on someone their own size which means that children are off limits.
the last homeschooling joke I heard on TV from a camedian was: this kid got introuble for sleeping with the teacher......... and he was homeschooled
I don't care for Leno's comedian's joke purely because of the lack of punchline. Now, if he would have turned it around and commented on how jealous he is of homeschoolers because--in the proverbial top 10 list of bad photos--yearbooks are only bested by driver's licenses, I would have laughed. Of course, in my home we laugh at all aspects of our life, which can include homeschooling quirks as well.
Our homeschool group does a yearbook as well. I generally like Leno, but must have missed it that night. Some comedians pick on people because they aren't that funny to begin with, so they think that by making someone else feel bad or the butt of their joke, then they are funnier - not usually. My sister and I are very large girls and once we went to a comedy club together. I knew something was up because they sat us right nex to the stage - which never happens - ever. Well the comedian proceded to pick on people around the stage - i.e. a black lady with plentiful cleavage, a blonde, etc - when it got to us I thought "here comes the fat jokes" but instead he asked my sister what ticked her off the most and she was so stunned that all she could say was "listening to you!" lol. The crowd roared and the comedian was "ticked off".
