Can you tell me more about them from a parent perspective? I see these in our Scholastic Weekly Book thing, but have never really checked them out.

    Is it magic/mystical? Just detectivey?

I think my kids might like this....but I'm jsut curious about them....

Love to know thoughts, feelings, impressions, etc.

    Thanks!

My girls said there is no magic , just mystery and detective work.
I'm reading the 1st one now and I see nothing wrong with them IMHO. My oldest is on book 5 and she just loves them. Online you do missions, games and enter your cards ( that come with the books and bonus packs). There is no chatting with other members online so it is really safe.

Hmmm wonder if the library has the first one and I could read it first, and see if it would be okay.

It's not that I mind magic, per se.....I'm not one for sorcery and wizardry though. My mother was WAY into the occultic while I was growing up....so it's kinda skeevy to me, personally. :D

thanks...I think I'll check them out.

Never heard of them! If it's not magic/occult, then I'll check them out for Faythe. Sounds like something she'd enjoy.

Looked up the web site. SOMETHING isn't sitting right with me, not sure what. Don't think I will mention them to Faythe after all!

I would love to know more about why you didn't like it.
I know the website looks "dark" but its actually the coat of arms and "evil"/mean/murderess branches of the family. People die in these books and the 2 kids ( main characters) are in danger all the time.
    No magic at all.
Here is some more info on the books and plot :

Also on a side note, my mormon friends and Co-Op group ( my family and one other family are the only non-mormons in the group of 40 families) all have the books and log on to the website as well. In fact that is how we learned about 39 clues, from church!

About what age range is this good for? We are always looking for fun books to read. I just checked and my library has them and thought it might be a fun break from my kids Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys obsessions. Not saying it is a bad thing, but I love it when they read things together, so they can talk about it and this sounds like something they can do, especially since our library has multiple copies.

It says ages 9-12 but my dd and her friends are 14 and up , they read them and talk about them all the time.

Kbabe1968, I know the list of "talented" artists is rather funny. I love that 1 branch has the Mythbusters listed as family!

I put the first two books on hold at my library. I had been avoiding them, simply because of the artwork on the covers, but after reading the Wiki stuff...looks like they might be harmless with education thrown in.

Hopefully they'll pass mine and my husbands radar.

Not sure we'll get into all the online stuff - that's the part that seems like the hook to me.

    :) Thanks! :D

The skulls on book 1 have #'s on them and some of the pages in the books are out of order, they are all part of clues that the kids need to solve, secret messages and all that.
Its pretty cool because the books don't explain that and my dd was like " hey they are out of order this must be another clue" and it was.
So every part of the book has clues..covers, pages, the back...everything!

The online stuff helps with the books and its free, my dd spends maybe 10-15 mins on it looking for hints , clues (that are on the cards that come with the book) and playing a game to get more cards to help her. I even signed up online so I could see what it was all about first.
You have to go online to solve the card puzzles ( they are like giant jigsaw puzzles and they form pictures when put together and more clues are on them also).
