I wasn't sure where to put this.....I finally decided on here. My dc and I found this to be rather neat. Especially when you consider how tiny an adult hummingbird is.

Keep in mind the egg is smaller than a tic tac and a quarter fits the opening of the nest! This is truly amazing.

Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest.

It took 24 days from birth to flight, enjoy.

Freddy and I thought that was totally amazing. I had just said I wish there was a penny in the nest to compare the size to and there was the picture with the toothpick and penny just a few shots later. We really enjoyed the pictures. Thanks. Beth

Phillip kept saying, "Oh, my gosh!!!" He's taking a class on animal classification, so I told him we need to send this link to his teacher. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

    That was really cool!

We get hummingbird nests in our front garden but I am never able to look in them because they are usually at least 5' off the ground and I am 5'1". LOL
I do not want to pull on the branches to look in because then I will disturb the nest.

    Thanks for sharing!

    that was so cool !!
I just cleaned up our feeders the other day and put them up again. I noticed a humming bird checking out the ground cover flowers.
    Thanks for sharing!

Amazing pictures - and it's difficult in the early pictures to fully appreciate just how small is the nest.

A few months back, two of my sons were concerned there was a giant hornet flying around the neighbor's yard. I went with them to look. We could hear the buzzing but could see nothing. A little later, the source appeared: It wasn't a hornet at all but a humming bird. We've always had plenty of them in the yard, but this one threw us out a little.

    They really are fascinating creatures.

That was such a treasure to see, I just love hummingbirds! I have two humming bird feeders one on my patio, and one in the garden. I also have a regular seed feeder but the hummingbirds are my favorite to watch, and they are also the most fearless of the birds.
