My dd11 has extremely sensitive skin, and she also has terrible body odor. It seems that the deodorants that work for her also make her break out in a rash. We just bought some Almay hypoallergenic deodorant, in hopes that it will solve both problems. Does anyone know of a good deodorant that is also gentle on sensitive skin?

My husband's skin gets red from Anti peresperant (sp) so he can only use deoderant. maybe that could be something to check on. My mom just got my DD's the degree clinical protection but I see that it is both anti perspirant and deoderant.

Have you tried a salt crystal type? You dampen them with tap water then rub it on. I think you could find it at a health food store.

I forgot that I can also use Dove. I have much better results from solids rather than gels. I have used the deodorant only types because I don't like to use anything chemical, but they don't work at all to cover odor when I sweat the least little bit. I don't put deodorant on if I can keep from it (not sweating/working or around anyone who cares LOL) to give my skin a break.

I've used baking soda and water (as a thin paste) and it works very well. The only issue is after shaving you must wait a few hours before you apply it or you will get a rash. Not sure if you dd is at that point yet or not, but it does work.

I make my own using this recipe:

    5-6 Tbsp Coconut oil
    1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch

Combine equal portions of baking soda & arrowroot powder. Then slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon until it maintains the substance you desire. It should be about the same texture as the store bought kind, solid but able to be applied easily. You can either scoop this into your old dispensers or place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. After applying the product, you can just rub the remains into your hands as a lotion! This recipe lasts about 3 months for two people with regular daily use.

This is the only deodorant that keeps me from smelling. Just make sure you use organic virgin coconut oil...has a light scent, but it works better than the non virgin kind. I have easily irritated skin and the baking soda doesn't cause any problems. Hope this helps.

Oh, and be careful with fragrances as they can cause irritation too...

My husband is also allergic to antiperspirant and can only use deodorant. The drug store deodorants didn't work to well for him. We finally found a deodorant that does work for him at the health food store. It's called Lafes Deodorant Spray. It comes in a clear plastic bottle.

    Hope that helps!

Up here we have something with Tom in the name. I will look when we go to the store. I bought my husband some deorderant and he broke out really bad that he had to go to the dr. and he recommended this brand. I heard about the baking soda too but never did it here.

I have used Tom's..got it at Wal-Mart. Apricot scent I believe. I wasn't sensetive to it, but it didn't work for taking care of odor for me, but everyone's chemestry is different.

Degree is one of the ones that works for the odor, but breaks her out. I use Suave, but it does nothing for her odor, though it doesn't break her out. I'm hoping the Almay works. She actually has a dermatologist appt. in a couple of weeks, so I was going to ask for recommendations. You ladies are a wealth of information!

What about baby powder? put some on her hand then rub under her arms.
But, good idea I would ask the dermatologist for sure.
