Kansas is known as the Bread Basket of the World. More wheat is grown in Kansas than any other state. The bread recipe is unique.

Our state flower is the Sunflower. Must share this ever so easy Sunflower Seed Candy recipe.
    KANSAS CANDY
Melt white almond bark and add one package
of shelled salted sunflower seeds. Drop by teaspoon
    onto waxed paper

Tennessee's state fruit is the tomato. Memphis is known for its annual Bar-be-que Festival, pulled-pork BBQ and ribs!

PA is famous for all the Pennsylvania Dutch recipes~ such as pot pie (not what the rest of the U.S. thinks of as "pot pie" but more of a dough-y noodle in broth~ yummy!), sauer kraut (rotten cabbage, but it's actually good with pork and mashed potatoes), funnel cakes (now those are good!)

    Idaho

Huckleberries are big in northern Idaho. The local economy here thrives on the little nondescript berry. People use them for milkshakes, jams, syrup, honey, candy, icecream topping, candles, and of course fresh. They come into season in late summer and are only available in the wild, which means the pickers get to compete with the bears and other wildlife getting ready for winter. If you look online you maybe able to find someone who sales them.

Here's a quick recipe for GA Peach Cobbler. You can use fresh GA peaches and add a little more sugar.

    QUICK AND EASY PEACH COBBLER

    1 stick butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    3/4 c. milk
    2 cans peaches

Mix together sugar, flour, and milk. Pour into baking dish. Melt butter and pour over other ingredients. Mix together. Heat peaches and pour over mixture, but do not stir. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top at 375 degrees.

This might be a little late but we are known for Bratwursts around here. The best way to make them is to boil them in beer (a good kind like Bud or Miller) for awhile before you cook them on the grill. The beer wont hurt the kids because all the alcohol content is taken out while it's boiling. It's the only way to make them taste oh so good!

We are also known for deep fried cheese curds. They are the best.

How do you make deep fried cheese curds? They're fat free, right?

Oh JenPooh can't forget when you boil the brats in beer they have to have onions with them too. Yes, the deep fried cheese curds are wonderful but not fat free.
Sorry, they are made just like deep fried mushroom except with cheese.

Sorry Deena, the cheese curds are loaded with fat because they are battered with a beer batter (or something similar) and deep fried in a deep fryer! It doesn't stop me though. I love them too much. You can buy some cheese curds in a grocery store, and buy the batter to cover them. Shake them in a large bag to smother them and then deep fry them. Make sure the oil is hot enough...one time mine turned into cheese plop.

Oh, and yes Kris, the onions are a must as well. Although, my hubby would disagree...he's so picky about darned onions .

Is it me, or does my state tend to surround things loaded with beer?;)

Are cheese curds like cottage cheese, or what?

Nope, they are hard. Think cheese nuggets. They are the other part of the whey...you know...curds and whey?

We have a farm around here who makes cheese curds in different flavors. One of them is bacon and another to die for one is garlic. Oh so good!!!
