That's terrible! Very scary. I hope all not sick stay healthy and all sick get better soon. H1N1 can be even milder than the flu or just the same....it does not have to be devestating. So, let's just pray it's a mild case and it did not spread. Keep us updated.
Many girls on Sam's dance team have been out with the flu and now all week her coach has not been there because she and her dd have the flu- now her dd alos has pnuemonia on top of that. We just really try and be proactive with cleanliness and immune boosting.
I posted this on another thread, but hopefully it will comfort you to know that almost 100% of the local flu is h1n1 here. Not a big deal at all, really. Milder than the typical seasonal flu it seems. We are in IL but right across the river from IA. IA has told the doctors in our area to stop sending in samples to be tested at the state lab because they are just assuming at this point it is all h1n1. Still praying for you. We love our babies.

Maybe your son already has it. I mean, flus go around every year and we parents don't know which stain our child has this time around. This is new strain is not the killer flu they thought it could be. Take deep breaths and relax. Any flu can turn on a child, but it is rare that a child ends up deathly ill.
How about not freak out and relax? So far this flu has not even come close to having the death rate of the regular seasonal flu...which kills, on average, 37,000-40,000 Americans every year. Worldwide that number is roughly 500,000 per year. Can you imagine how horrible it would be if we were constantly given media updates on each and every one of those deaths? There is SO much information about H1N1 that is hyped and hysterical that it's understandable for us to freak out at the thought of it in our homes. Every death is reported especially when it's a child. Keep in mind that almost, if not all, of the deaths have had secondary bacterial infections that needed further treatment (like strep and pneumonia), or the victims had a severe underlying condition. Also keep in mind that there is a HUGE push for the vaccination program and it's much easier to get people to comply when they're afraid. I personally believe that the fear is being propagated for compliance. I have a child with asthma. According to statistics she is higher risk for complications from any form of the flu. I've already had an infant on life support from RSV so the fear of going through that again is there. That was the beginning of my anxiety disorder that I deal with daily. Anyway, I've quit listening to every detail on H1N1 otherwise I could very easily be a basket case. I have friends along with their children (who are much worse asthmatics than my child) be confirmed with H1N1 and they have recovered quickly without any complications. Best thing is for everybody to not go into the mode of the media and report every death in their community. It will be obvious if this strain of the flu mutates and turns into something truly horrible as we will be overwhelmed with the information. There is nothing wrong with being prepared and cautious, but allowing and propagating fear is simply not healthy. Now discussing helpful suggestions and techniques on avoidance and care is....
A two year old who visits our church a lot had swine flu and has recovered now. She only had two pretty sick days from what I heard. Try not to worry too much. It doesn't seem to be as bad as they first thought it was going to be.
I'm hoping you're not offended, but it...Seriously. Sounds. Like. You. Are. Was hoping to ease your mind and your heart and I do hope that someone here did that. Oh, and I was not suggesting that you are propagating fear....you're a momma who is worried about her baby. Just suggesting that everyone consider how they bring the issue to the table so some of us, who are anxious anyway, won't have to suffer further from unnecessary worry.

Yes, maybe you're right. Maybe I have the mentality of a five year old. How do you expect people to respond when you change your original post and then type "Seriously.Done. Enjoy"?? Instead of being an adult yourself and recognizing that maybe your post and what everyone said was valuable you change the whole dynamic of the thread. So, now anyone new to the conversation won't even know how it all got started. I can't help but think that it was my post that did it since you changed your original post after I wrote. You could have thanked everyone for their concern and ended it there or allowed others to comment, but like a child you didn't do that. So I guess we're both childish..... Wow BLeigh how would you like it if you posted a concern for your child and someone came and posted a crappy "get over it" kind of comment like you did? She has a ligitimate concern for her child and what you said was uncalled for.
Well, I don't want any drama...but I will say that having concerns for our children is natural. I know if my kids were exposed I would be upset. And here they are sick again anyway..so maybe they do have it..maybe not. who knows. At any rate, I hear everything from it's mild to deaths. I know, I know, that happens every year but it is all concerning. Not sure what to do.
First of all, I did not say "get over it"....I said not to freak out and to relax. I'm sorry if it was read in a hurtful manner...totally not my intentions and I can not understand for the life of me how anybody could perceive it that way. Guess this is the problem with communicating electronically rather than in person. I am a person who usually tries to bring the truth to a situation especially if I feel that it can help calm someone down. THAT'S ALL. I am a momma too and I get scared and if someone has something USEFUL to calm my fears I usually accept it gratefully. Obviously this is not the place to try to be helpful with such matters and I'll be sure to stick to much safer subjects. Just because I feel I should defend myself, when I'm sure it's not necessary, I'll share a recent story of mine. A couple weeks ago I had to go by ambulance with my child at 0230 in the morning 52 miles away to the Children's Hospital b/c of severe asthma attack. She was sick and I thought she had the H1N1 flu and I was terrified. I cried all the way home and all the next day. I HAD to CALM down and deal with the situation appropriately so I wouldn't freak out which I was well on my way to doing. Haven't needed medication to calm myself down in over 2 years and I thought I was going to need it. I have plenty of compassion for a fearful momma. I know what it's like to let anxiety get the best of you and it's not a good place to find yourself in. No matter, you all have done just fine without my input and I'll just not go here again.
