It's been raining here off and on for days and all day today. My boys love to splash in the rain so I let them go out and play for a bit. They were in front of the house in my garden spot.... nice and muddy! I called them in just now and my middle ds said someone took a picture of them:shock:

The road in front of the house is flooded, I was watching out the window as cars turned around in front of the house. Now it's possible whoever it was was taking pictures of all the flooding and just thought 'hey look at those kids having fun' and snapped a picture of them too.

Is it unusual for kids to play in the rain and mud? Would you be concerned if someone took pictures of your kids playing in the rain?

I would be upset if someone I didn't know made a picture of my kids without asking. Once a guy from the local newspaper stopped and wanted to take the kids picture because they were out playing in the snow. I let him and it was a big deal to them to have their picture in the paper. He did ask and wanted to be sure it was okay. More than likely your kids just looked adorable playing and someone just took a picture because it was so cute. It may be unusual for kids to play in the mud and rain but mine loved it when they were younger. I still like to walk in the rain in the summer.

That was my other thought, that it was someone from the newspaper. I *really* hope their picture doesn't end up on the front page of the local paper! Although I guess they would be thrilled.

I would also be concerned if someone took pictures of my chidren without asking. Photo journalists MUST get approval before taking a minor's picture or they could land in hot water if the picture is printed.

However, it sounds to me like it was more just a passerby who thought it was funny that they were out splashing around.

I would gladly let my kids play in the rain, but it's only in the 40s here, so I'd rather they not get sick. But in the summer I let them play in the mud and rain all the time.

YES I let them play in the rain all the time!

Once when I was 8 years old a friend and I were playing in a muddy construction site across the street from our houses where they were building a bank. We got our picture taken completely coverd and up to our thighs in md. It was awesome!

Glad I'm not the only one! They had a ball. Actually they want to go back out, but I don't want anymore muddy clothes to wash!

Depends on how cold it is! But if it's warm and wet, sounds like lots of fun! As far as the photography, I'd be a little unnerved about it, too! Hopefully, it was just someone who saw a cute picture of kids playing, and never thought that it would be a big deal.

Find the book RAIN by Peter Spier! A great story about a brother and sister outside playing in the rain. It's a picture book, possibly wordless, been around for a LONG time!

Are you sure they didn't see lightning in the corner of their eye? (a flash of lighting would seam like a picture)

my kids love to play in the rain...............if its not lightning.

My kids play in the rain all the time. I had someone take pictures of my kids..not when it was raining though. They ran inside and told me. I grabbed my camera and ran after them..lol..didn't find the guy though. Called the police and the woman said it must have been a city auditor doing some street research or something silly like that. Whatever. She didn't know what to say. I hope nothing every came of it. I was hoping maybe it was my house insurance.....I was insured by someone who did that every year...I don't think Allstate does that though. So, hopefully there are pics of them somewhere I don't know aobut. I certainly hope for you it turns out to be nothing.

Mine play in the rain as long as it isn't lightening.

Was this during school hours? Not that I care--we go out without paying attention to if others are in school or not--just curious if there was anyone trying to prove truancy with your family by taking pics.

Interesting side note: my kids appeared in multiple pics in the paper when we lived in a bigger city. They were some of the only kids to take pics of during the day! LOL

I played in the rain when I was a kid. My kids played in the rain. And my dgs who is four can play in the rain at MY house.... IF it's not thunderlng and lightning.

When I was a kid, there were these grassy low areas in the neighborhood. We called 'em ditches but they were only for rain runoff and not for sewage or anything like that! When it rained hard, those were our "swimmin' holes".

DS, when he was a kid, loved to go "surfing" in the lowest place in our backyard where after a really heavy rain it might be four to six inches deep. He'd put down an old air mattress at one end, and run and throw himself onto the air mattress and coast!

nope, no lightning, and it was around 70 today, a little cool but I was out in it a bit and it wasn't cold.

We have a small tourist attraction across the road from us that was totally flooded. I'm hoping they were taking pictures of that and just snapped one of the boys in the process. I was watching out the window, there were 2 trucks stopped at the same time, I know it was one of them but not which one.

I wouldn't worry about the pictures. I bet even if it were a Photographer that they know they have to have model releases for the pics. Unless they are unrecognizable (no faces showing etc) My Hubby is a photog and sometimes takes pictures of strangers Sometimes just a shadow of a person.

As for the rain I sometimes let them but we don't get much in our area. It usually doesn't last long or just sprinkles here.

If the temperatures are warm and Em's asthma isn't acting up, I allow her to play in the rain for a bit.
    She has a blast!

I would be concerned any time someone took pictures of my children. But yes, my children do play in the rain. My parents never let us, but my children have at it when it is raining.

My daughter likes to sometimes, and it has been raining here so much that we have threatened to start building another ark. She hasn't done it lately though. She used to get the hose and dig a mudhole in the front yard and sit out there for hours playing in the mud - cheap entertainment. I would freak if someone came and took her picture though - if it wasn't a newspaper. We are rural and my eyes were opened when she was in public school because they had a whole wall in the office with pictures of registered sex offenders who lived in the area! So she knows if someone she doesn't know drives by and even slows down to get back in the house pronto! I don't usually let her go out by herself.
