Just wondered what are some of you and your childrens favorite books ? So far The Ramona Series by Beverly Cleary is my favorite, Also the American Girl series.. As far as picture books- The Birdwatchers by Simon James, I Love you Stinky Face by Lisa Mccourt. I have so many favorites, can't wait to hear from ya'll.
"Harry the Poisonous Centipede" is my sons all time favorite. My dds would be one of the following "Artemis Foul", "Charlie Bone", "Tom Sawyer & Huckelberry Finn" . When they were younger my ds's favorite was "No David".
My dd's favorite book right now is also "No David" we must have read that book 10 times since yesterday. She also likes "Where the Wild Things Are" we read that one only 5 times so far since yesterday. My older kids really like the "Diary of Whimpy Kid" series and also the "Captain Underpants" series. I just realized this sounds bad, I should have put down some classic like Tom Sawyer or something. Instead my kids favorite book has a poop superhero for a character.
My oldest loves the Magic Treehouse series (7 yo). My other two don't really have a favorite. They get on a kick for a day or two, but then switch to something else.
We've been enjoying The Chronicles of Narnia series. My daughter likes the Judy Moody books, and my son likes the A to Z Mysteries books. They both liked Charlotte's Web earlier this year. My daughter loved Baby Island last year [she's obsessively in love with babies].
My oldest (girl) adores anything American Girl for books. She's read almost all the series books. She also likes random books like one's we've read for book club - random classics. She usually leans towards historical fiction. My middle (boy) adores anything. REally, he reads coasters. LOL. Faves are Magic Schoolbus Chapter Books, A-Z Mysteries, Flat Stanley books, Captain Underpants (yes, much to my chagrin), Ricky Riccota's Mighty Robot.
Kbabe - I don't know if you've ever seen Vision Forum or not, but they have a lot of historical fiction stories for girls: http://www.visionforum.com/ They're a Christian organization, though, and so I'm not sure how palatable their selections would be if you're not.
My oldest is currently addicted to the Rick Riordan books about Percy Jackson. She is dsylexic and they make her feel so good about herself. They have also gotten her to read Greek Mythology. She is counting down until the movie based on the first book the Lightning Thief comes out next year.
Well, at this point in time we're still into "Winnie the Pooh" and "Hand, Hand, Finger, Thumb". But as for when my kids were growing up, they are all avid readers. The girls read about every horse book out there. My favorite is Man O'War and C'mon Seabiscuit. I loved the American Girl series for my youngest. My son absolutely loved the Coopers Kids series, and even as an adult asked me to replace them after our fire burned all of our books. My daughter really loved and will still read any she hasn't already read the Saddle Club and Pony Club books, even tho she's now 20. lol. But honestly, she likes just about anything. She also loved the newer Peretti novels in high school. I enjoyed all of Peretti's, Jenkins, and I do like a good historical romance. But I have to admit that MY all-time absolute fav books are the "All Creature" Series by James Herriot. My daughter tells me that they are what inspired her to go into veterinary medicine.
Just got a catalog from them today. OH...she also likes the Sisters in Time series. I'm disappointed that they had a website, but now, it's nothing. Looks like it used to have games and such that the girls could do based on the girls in the books, but now all the links are dead
Another book that is another all time favorites is "The Trumpet of The Swan". by E.B. White , it's an excellent book.
My oldest is really into historical fiction right now, but when he was younger he loved The Magic Treehouse. My 11 year old loves Harry Potter, and was a Franklin the turtle fan when he was younger. My daughter doesn't really have a favorite book, but loves the classic fairy tales.
Well my Grace's absolute favorite book right now is a book of poetry called When We Were Very Young by A.A. Milne. We just got fnished with The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web as well. We just began a fairy tale book by Hans Christian Andersen.
When I was younger I loved reading all the Roald Dahl books.... he wrote Charlie & the Chocolate Factory & many others. I liked Boy about his boyhood. Some of the books we have in the house that are enjoyed now & as well in the past. The Stinky Face books (someone mentioned). We have the miss you, the love you & the Christmas. I Love it When you Smile, the Napping House, Old Lady who wasn't afraid of Anything, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Shel Silverstein books. I have a whole bunch from when I taught.
I don't know if my son has a favorite book, he claims he hates to read. I think he hates the work associated with reading. Because last year I had him read "Slopes of War", but I did not have him do any type of work along with it. I didn't even ask him to tell me about it. He said he liked it. This year we have been reading out of BJU lit (9th) and the stories have all been interesting. We read the excerpt of Treasure Island and he liked it. So, I gave him a choice to read the rest of the Treasure Island book or read more short stories in BJU, he chose Treasure Island. So, I think he enjoys some stuff as long as he is not bogged down with work and endless analyzing of the stories.
My oldest son (14) enjoyed the Percy Jackson stories this summer. He also liked Beric the Briton by G.A. Henty. (He read Treasure Island last year, but didn't love it.) DS also liked Across Five Aprils, and he just read The Crucible for class and liked it. My middle son (12) will read ANYTHING! He read "Al Capone Does My Shirts" over the summer and enjoyed that. He is liking the 39 Clues series, and likes anything by Andrew Clement so far. Youngest son (9) likes anything by Dav Pilkey. He really likes the Stink series (Judy Moody's little brother), and the Freddy series. I don't know that we have a "favorite" at the moment- we've been reading poetry aloud the last couple of weeks- Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky and Bruce Lansky. Silly stuff that makes them laugh! Sorry if that's too long! MT3
We love practically every book assigned by Sonlight ... my dd (9) and I are just finishing Across Five Aprils and we are loving it. Her last reader was 'Shades of Grey' and she loved that too. If you have girls her age, you can see what she classifies as her favorites - she wrote a Squidoo lens listing them http://www.squidoo.com/10-great-reads-for-girls Meryl
I read all Judy Blume's Fudge books too my kiddos. They loved them! Some parts of each book I would skip, skim and paraphrase because it talked about the parents being the toothfairy and that type of stuff or it was a rather boring part. The majority of the books they enjoyed though. The books my son likes to read on his own are the Henry and Mudge series.
I loved the henry and mudge books. I hate that my girl is out grown those. Another good book series is The Mister Putter and Tabby series. They are the cutest books- about an old man and his sluggish cat. A must read.
