This is good info but a little too late for me. We tried hard to not take our step kids to large gatherings where it would be easy to come into contact with a carrier. But then there mother took the girl to see Miley Cyrus, two days later she has H1N1 and her brother quickly followed.
When we go out I take wet wipes for our hands and if we are going out to eat we use one before we start to eat. If we are shopping we use one when we load up into the car--I even wipe the steering wheel down! People usually look at us then if they say something it is usually "good idea." We went out to buffet and I offered wet wipes to the in-laws and they passed saying they just washed their hands in the restroom. Ok but not everyone does and they are touching the same serving utinsils we are!
Now I never thought about the serving utentsils - ugh. I always think of the carts that we are pushing and how many other dirty hands have touched them. Thanks for sharing, great information.
I carry hand sanitizer with me at all times. I got into the habit of using it when my daddy was in the hospital for months before he died. I used it in church before going in to shake hands, before ocmmunion and before leaving the service to shake the preachers hand. I take EmergenC vitamin c supplements and once a month all year long I take Echinachea (sp?) tablets. I also wipe the cart down at the store. The stores here now have stations set up by the carts with clorox wipes for customers to use.
Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, my kids both have it. DS has it worse than DD but he hanging in there. It really is kicking up his asthma. We headed to the doctor in a little bit to what we can do make him comfortable (breathing). I know that I have already been exposed but I do plan on trying these out. I am the primary caregiver here so I need to try and stay healthy as possible.
Mrs Mommy, sorry to hear your children are sick. Thanks everyone for ALL the great tips and suggestions. I thought that I would add below some suggestions for when travelling. As a precaution when traveling and staying in hotels. The first thing I do is clean and sanitize EVERYTHING. (1) The sink counter- this is where the kids place their toothpaste, hairbrushes, etc... (2) The TV remote- Lord only knows how germy that thing is (3) The lamps, on/off switch. All light switches. (4) The door knobs and the drawer knobs on all dressers. (5) The heating/AC Controls (6) I clean the toilets completely before any one uses them. The same for the tub/shower and all fixtures. (7) The telephone (8) We never use the pillows, comforters, or sheets in a hotel. Sleeping bags come in handy. ( to use on top of the bed) (9) We buy our own cups to use and also a small plastic water pitcher. (10) We NEVER allow anyone to walk barefoot in the room. Flip flops or shower shoes. I always carry those toilet seat covers whenever we are going somewhere. Also, I always keep hand sanitizer, Lysol, and Clorox Wipes. Guess I am a bit of a germaphobe.
I am glad I am not the only one to pack Clorox wipes for a trip! We stayed in a "better" hotel and when we pulled the covers of the bed back found the sheets hadn't been changed they had been pulled back up at straightened out. After we called the front desk for a new room of course they had none so they changed the sheets. I am guessing the room was not cleaned so it is always safe to wipe everything down!
Long ago before those clorox wipes were invented I'd carry around a can of lysol spray and a roll of paper towels. People used to think I was nuts! We would often rent cabins and go on fishing trips and I would always sanitize everything before I even brought in my bags.
That's awesome, thanks! I didn't know that about the gargling..and here I hardly ever buy Listerine and my dh is always putting it on the list!
My son and I carry hand sanitizer with us at all time. in pocket, purse, car lol and around house lol and we are always spraying the house with Lysol and using Lysol whipes. Of course we have always been like this lol
