I remember some from my school days and they were so much fun. Now I want to do some this month with my little one. Like turkey hats, table decorations, place mats, things about the mayflower, pilgrims, indians, etc. I am open to all ideas. Now keep in mind he is 5, so you know the age make it fun. thank you for any help
Check out familyfun.com. They have craft ideas and instructions for just about everything and have the holidays broken down into categories which makes it easier to search.
A tip for those of you with young children--Thanksgiving comes and goes so fast that it often seems like I never had time to do any decorating, etc. so I saved my kid's Thanksgiving projects from preschool and early primary grades. I store them in a tub and pull them out a night or so before Thanksgiving--usually we have some sort of meal with their woven construction paper placements, table decorations, etc and I hang up all those turkeys on my kitchen wall. They're in their teens and preteens now but they always really enjoy seeing it all again.
Funny you should post this! We just finished with one this morning. Well we finished the begining. It is a turkey that you add a feather to everyday until Thanksgiving. We used construction paper and glue. I am going to post a photo of it on my blog later and will link it here for you.
When I taught PS School we had a girl/boy & Native American color by number sheet that we color. I just have a folder of all that stuff for the PS school...I'll have to dig out. We will start with Thanksgiving stuff after Veteran's day!!!
well, we started this week, my kids r doing a thanks. notebook. i printed of sriting paper that has turkeys, and a coloring page, etc. also they took my pack of construction paper and glue sticks and made a bunch of little things for table, like pilgrim hat, indian feathers, fall leaves, the mayflower, etc . i googled stuff, it gives lots of ideas!
We did a Thanksgiving tree a few years ago... it was a hit, maybe I will hurry up and put one together again. Draw a large tree for on the wall, cut out leaves.. fall colors are fun.. from construction paper (look for patterns online) and every day each family member writes (or dictates) something they are thankful for and they add the leaf to the tree.

I don't know if you have a laminater or not. I have a tiny cheap one. We printed out leaves coloring sheets. The kids colored them & cut them out. We hung them on curling ribbon . Then, we taped them to the ceiling. We also taped some to the windows as window clings. That way we can reuse them next year.
I'm still in the classroom, getting ready to HS next year. With my PreKers I do painted handprint turkeys on construction paper cards. I paint their palm and thumb brown and each finger a different color. Have them hold their fingers close together with their thumb sticking out by itself and stamp it on the paper. When it dries, add a wiggly eye and draw on the legs and beak. If your child can write, have them copy Happy Thanksgiving on the inside and sign their name (or print it off on the computer and let them glue it in). For my class, I deliver them to the hospital or a nursing home to be placed on the tray with the Thanksgiving meal.
I remember putting glue on a pinecone and putting multi colored glitter, then you use construction paper to make the waddle, and make some eyes and use pipe cleaner to make the feet, the pine cone is sideways not upright.
so many ideas! These are all really great. I will have to get back in the swing of things and start some of these (I really like the tree idea). I know my kids are ready to decorate for thanksgiving! I love it here!
We have not started our Thanksgiving crafts but we have some Fall crafts that can be used as Thanksgving decorations after they are made. The links below are from our Homeschooling blog. We made some fall leaves out of paper, crayon, watercolor paint. It is called crayon resist art and you can it ours HERE. We made some more this week and laminated them as our Thanksgiving placemats. For our windows, we made Leaf and Pumpkin sun catchers. Together we made a soft sculptured Pumpkin out of polyfil, hosiery and orange and green tempera paint. You can see ours HERE.
Now dh remembers making a huge turkey hat when he was younger in school and cannot remember how to make it. Now I have looked, but cannot find anything. Any ideas?
