Are there any children's books on being homeschooled?

Hi! I hope this is ok as my first post!

We just started hs'ing our 5yo with the Calvert kindergarten curriculum. I went to the library tonight to pick up some of the suggested books to read aloud. Some of them dealt with going to kindergarten - which would be great, except that I don't necessarily want to show and read to my son about how kids go to another place and have all sorts of fun with other kids and doing cool stuff.... he is already somewhat aware of how public schools are (and I'm sure would be very happy to go to one) - I just don't want to make him feel unhappy about being homeschooled. Do you know what I mean?

I'd love to read him a book or two about all the fun that a homeschooled child has - I tried to google, but I'm not very proficient at it - found nothing. I'm hoping it's not because there's nothing out there.... which is why I'm here now. I figured you would be the ones who would know! Can you point me to anything?

    Tina

Hi Naturalmama, Welcome to The Spot! In answer to your question, the only book that I can think of at the moment; for such a young child, would be the book below.

    Kandoo Kangaroo hops into homeschool
by Susan Ratner; Bryan Miller. 2000. Fiction : Primary school.
Green Forest, AR : Master Books, ISBN: 0890512906. 9780890512906

A mother kangaroo realizes that her six-year-old is ready to start home schooling.

The only other ones that I can think of at present, are for older children. If I do remember any others that are age appropriate, I'll come back and post them.

Again, welcome! Glad you have joined us.

Allison's story : a book about homeschooling - by Jon Lurie
I am a home schooler - by Julie Voetburg

Sorry, these are the only two "for kids" at my library. I read them with my son, but they're not "that" exciting.

Here are the Scott Stroud books.

    Baby Kong:

Mom is determined to have a productive day homeschooling the kids but in her way stands Baby Kong! Set on destroying everything in his path, including Mom's sanity, Baby Kong rampages through the house. Thankfully, Mom has a few tricks up her sleeve.
Books about going to school are easy to find but books about homeschooling families are precious and rare. This one is truly a treasure. This story is based in Christian principles and has several references to God.

    Grumpy Mr. Grady:

Mr. Grady does not like kids. They are loud, messy and disrespectful! His new neighbors are a family of home-schoolers. That's even worse! Their kids never go off to school so they are around all the time! The old veteran's view of them sure changes, though, when the big blizzard hits town.

WOW! I didn't know there were books like that out there!

There's some other fiction books, similar to the Homeschool Detectives, where the kids are homeschooled. One in particular is published by YWAM, but I can't remember the series. The kids' parents are always traveling to fun, exotic places (mission field?), and there's usually a short mystery. They're fairly easy reads, about 2nd or 3rd grade level.

There was a series out called Too Smart Jones about a homeschooling family that solved little mysteries. My girls liked them.
Also My Mommy, My Teacher by Johanna Bluedorn.
