    Hello friends!

Sorry I am late with the monthly thread, but things have been hectic around our house. One son seriously sprained his foot in football (we thought for several days he had a fracture), and one son broke his wrist playing outside. The middle son had another adjustment on his braces last week and has been sore, and I, as mom, would seriously like a day off! LOL Thankfully we have avoided any colds or flus, but we are kind of "run down" at our house right now.

Patty- CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss! Fantastic!! :D Thank you for sharing that with us, and keep up the great work!

gardenturtle- how are you feeling today? Almost half way already! I can't help you with the herbal book... maybe someone else can?

Saying hello to everyone. I am off to get some office work done and then to figure out lunch. Stop in to chat!

Drink your water and kiss your kids! MT3

Wow MT3, lots goin' on there! Hope everyone is better soon! Maybe you need to just go in your room and close the door and rest for an hour! Take care of yourself!

I'm getting some exercise with the volunteering at the Humane Society. I'm trying to get a program going with exercise, but it seems to keep getting knocked off the tracks with other things. I'll keep trying though!

My ds16 got an elbow smashed into his nose a week ago Sunday when they were playing floor hockey. It bled and swelled up and he's had headaches ever since. They took him in this Monday and they said it's still swollen and possible "minor" concussion. So he's been putting ice on it and not doing sports stuff.

My ds18 is working hard at college. We told him college is very hard, but he would shrug us off and say he'd do fine. Now he's realizing that some lasses really ARE harder in college! He's actually doing okay with most of them, but he's taking "College Writing" and isn't enjoying the writing process. He is afraid of getting grades that might bring his gpa below 3.5. He has to keep the grades at or above 3.5 for his academic scholarship to stay valid.

DD is having trouble staying on task. Puberty is a tough time---with so many changes going on she's having a hard time being motivated and getting everything done! I'm allowing some leeway this year to give her the opportunity to get through all this, but still making sure she's advancing! She's still a sweety, it's just brain and body are busy with the changes happening. She just started eating more again, so I think she's going to have a growth spurt soon. :)

DH went on a trip to Florida for a few days with friends--found a great deal on Southwest! He had a good time, but he missed me and I missed him! We don't like being apart for very long at all!

DD may have an opportunity to go to a music "thing". It'd be mostly highschool age kids, but some youngers too. It's like a "workshop" thing for orchestra and choir. They get instruction from pros, learn songs and perform in 3 or 4 places. Has anyone heard of the channel 3ABN? It's a Christian channel. They're going to make a program that will be shown on 3ABN! It's a neat opportunity, but they don't have all the info. out yet for me to check into. She hasn't been playing violin for 2 years now, so she'd be in the choir.

Hope everyone is doing well! HUGS to all of you---hope you "check in" soon!

Hello friends! I see many congratulations are in order all the way from Patty losing 30 pounds
to the anticipated arrival of a new little turtle for a special garden
to successful fund raisers for Deena's daughter's projects
to MT3's family surviving breaks and sprains.
So, here is a multitude of heart-felt CONGRATULATIONS coming to all of you!

A short update: I, too, have a student in college who is struggling with writing papers, but is learning some valuable skills. This is the first fall in years that I am not gaining weight! Yeah! Fall harvests have kept me away from the kitchen as well as away from the Homeschool Spot.

Well, I just wanted to stop by and get semi-caught up, especially with this support group, and I'll also check to see what's happening on the larger forum. Keep drinking water everyone, keep moving, and stay in touch whenever you can!

Hello ladies! If you have a minute, let's talk about ideas for Thanksgiving this year- food, or entertaining, or crafts, or things you are thankful for!

Wow, Deena, lots going on with your crew! That is neat that DD will be involved in the 3ABN project. Keep us posted. So nice that DH got to go to Florida. Ow to DS2! Is he doing better? Hugs to DS1 as he "works" harder at college!

Congrats PH on no weight gain as well! I haven't weighed in a little while, but my clothes are fitting a little better.

I am finally getting a little better sleep. For several nights I was snoozing on the couch upstairs in case one of the boys needed me- I would go to bed about 4:00 am. Then up at 6 or 7 depending on the day. All of the boys seem to be healing well.

I am working on my lesson plans for Lit class- I think it's time to call it a night. Our co-op has an Open House in December for the end of classes, and I'm trying to figure out what each Lit class can show. We've worked on vocabulary pages and done research on living in the 1960's/80's/present; done colonial math with schillings and pounds; talked plot and characters and setting, etc, etc, etc- but nothing that we can place on a table or go up on stage and say "this is what we DID in class". ugh!

Enough of that... have a wonderful week! I pray that it is productive! Deena, hang in there with DD. I have two boys beginning to go through the "teens" and I'm about ready to pull my hair out! We can do it!

Drink your water and kiss your kids!

Thanksgiving: We are hosting this year, and I'm getting the house spiffed! I even painted the bathroom ceiling yesterday!

We always bake turkey, whether or not we host or need to take it, because holidays around here wouldn't be the same without the smell of roasting turkey. I'll do the main course which will also include mashed and sweet potatoes, pumpkin pies--several kinds--and bread.

Last year we made sweet potato rolls. They were so pretty! I think we'll do that again this year.

SWEET POTATO ROLLS--easy, delicious, nutritious, and beautiful!
1 1/2 cups cooked sweet potato, mashed, room temp.
2 cups warm liquid (Potato water or milk)
    1/3 cup dry milk
    2 pks dry yeast
    1/2 cup butter, melted
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1tsp salt
    Approx. 5 1/2 cups flour

    1. Combine mashed sweet potato, liquids, egg, butter, sugar and yeast in mixer. Blend until smooth.
    2. Add one cup of flour, dry milk, and salt. Continue adding flour until a soft dough begins to form. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and shiny, adding flour as needed. The dough will still be soft. (Of course, if you use part whole wheat flour, you'll need less.)
    3. Form into a ball. Oil it and let rise until it has doubled in bulk, an hour or more.
    4. Knead the dough and form into rolls.
    5. Place in greased pans and let rise about 20 minutes.
    6. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until slightly browned.

(I'm sorry, I forgot how many rolls this made. Probably one pan full.)

It sounds like the worst of your illnesses are over, MT3. You'll be thankful for your health this Thanksgiving! I am thankful for a very enjoyable year and that our homeschool graduates are finding direction for their lives.

Happy Thanksgiving friends! Many blessings and things to be thankful for- from our house to yours!

P.H.- I'm just working on CLEANING my bathrooms- not painting the ceilings! That sounds like a good project to get done. Thank you for the sweet potato roll recipe- I may give that a try. My in-laws are making 80% of the food this time, since both DH and I are working during the week.

It has still been busy here- but lots of good things. The kids schooling seems to be going along well, even if I have "dawdlers" at times!

Oh, and I lost FOUR pounds!! Woohoo! I was rather pleased to see that this weekend!

Check in if you can- and kiss your kids!

Can I join in? I just read the whole Soy Story and I'm cutting out most of the soy in my diet. Anyone try this?

Hi, Ladies! Time is flying right on by isn't it!? We've all been sick with colds, but other than that enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas! Got our tree up inside, though our scarecrow and pumpkin are still up OUTside! :)

We've found out that our unborn little one is a BOY! Can't believe I'm going to have one of each! :) We're excited and re-shuffling dd (almost 3)'s room to hold a new bed and all the "stuff" of a baby! He's moving around a lot these days - poking and prodding mommy when she's resting! :)

Hope you all have a nice time preparing for Christmas!
