UGH!!!!!! Ok - I had the power problem for awhile. I've dealt with it because I NEED a computer to do all the work on. So now I have fixed one that DH can do basic work on (email, facebook and getting into the bank accounts to check balances).

SO today I am MAKING Best Buy take my laptop in. They first told me I needed a new power adapter, second time I forget what they said... but I still brought it right home - today they WILL ship it back to Gateway and get the power connector fixed.

Can't wait until my son has his own laptop to do schoolwork on - life will be SOOOOO much easier!!!

Is yours a gateway? Mine is too, and I have had the worse problems out of my power! It could never go unplugged for more than a couple of hours. Then sis accidentally tripped over the cord and yanked it out. We got a new cord and that worked for a while, but now it's like it's not making a good connection and the battery will not hold a charge. I have to hold it just right and be careful or it will instantly go dead.

I think mine will be fine if I can set it up on the table for them to use for their school next year. But I'm getting a new netbook with taxes! lol!
    Good luck with yours!

I have the same problem out of my compaq. It stinks ! Till the other day when it gave me the blue screen of death. I need compaq recovery disc but, mine didn't come with it. Now i'm going to have to play someone else to fix it unless I find someone with a compaq recovery disc.

Mine is a Gateway - and apparently it is a reported on documented problem, I will NOT buy a Gateway again. I'm sitting here on my old WORKING Acer..... granted I don't know what my husband did and the CD drive isn't working at the moment..... so I may have to hook up the external one that I got just so I can load schoolwork up for Jacob to do. 2 more weeks until he gets his own netbook to do schoolwork. My laptop SHOULD be back within a week they think. The girl who looked totally annoyed and bored with her job, told me to just expect a new laptop shipped back. We'll see.

Well, I hope you get a new laptop back to you asap. It blows when something doesn't work right especially since you spent a lot of money on it. My mom had a gateway for years..back when they actually had the stores and shoot that thing is 8+ years and it's still running like a champ.

Wow, I'm just bought new laptop last night at Best buy but I got a Dell. I'm glad I didn't get a gateway, sounds like people have alot of trouble with them.
I'm so loving this thing!! Now, I need a wireless mouse.
Hope you get yours back soon.

It's ok - right now I am loading up SOS on my husband's (my old) laptop so that my son can get schoolwork done today. Like I said I can't WAIT until 2 weeks from now when the kids have their own to work with and this won't matter.

Mine was internal on the hardware side. The place where you plug in the power cord was loose - nothing you can do unless you take it apart and solder it. Software issues I can handle..... it's the hardware (under warranty) I won't touch :)

I will say that I love my gateway...it runs perfectly and I have had very little trouble out of the actual computer itself...it's just the power part that is giving me problems. When taxes come and I get my own netbook, I intend to set this one up on the hs table and let the kids work on it there. I think the power won't be as much of a problem if it can remain stationary.

oh, and I've yet to get a blue screen of death...knock on wood!

My thing is that it's the internal components - it runs like a dream :) I just bought it last Feb. and this is a known issue which came out after I bought it. I believe that they really need to make sure things on a MOBILE unit need to be sturdy. I don't even move it around much, I actually just leave it on my chair!!

Not sure I would get a netbook for myself personally because I have fat fingers - LOL.

My first laptop was a Gateway and I had so many problems. I'll never buy their products again. The last laptop I bought on Ebay and although it was used, it was still under warranty. I extended the 'Complete Care' which covers accidental damage and it was the best thing I ever did. I dropped it dozens of times, spilled coffee on it, and lots more. Every time something happened, they sent a tech to my house or work the next day and fixed it. Never had any problems with their warranty. I'm ordering a new one this month from Dell's Outlet and with the 'Complete Care' it will be about $1200 ($400 of which is the 3 year warranty) but if anything happens they come to me and fix it.

I have to admit I've loved my HP laptop that I got two years ago for my birthday, it's been a great laptop and I got it at a fantastic price.

I'll have hubby take a look at it then. Thankfully he can do that type of stuff because there's nothing I could do about it! lol!

btw Dana....off topic but checking out your website again! I hate that you're so far away! I would love to buy eggs and a whole hog off of you! lol! We butchered and put up a whole hog about 7 years ago and that was one of the most satisfying accomplishments I've ever done! I would love to run a farm like yours one day, that's my dream. :) Anyhow, good luck with your farm this coming year!
