Today on Dr. Phil, they had parents that confeaa to being both "helicopter" parents, and "free range" parents. While I wish I landed somewhere in the middle....I do not. lol I keep hoping that as my son gets older I'll do better....let's hope because I do realize I am only hurting HIM if I continue down my path. Anyway, it got me thinking....what category do you fall into? (and don't judge me for watching Dr. Phil) lol
I typically like Dr. Phil. I used to be a helicopter mom when my kids were little. I might still be considered one by the "Free Range" parents. I'm going to go for the middle ground, although I still CARE about being a part of every aspect of their lives, they no longer require my constant supervision. We have successfully arrived at appropriate levels of self-discipline, which is--after all--the goal of being a "Helicoption Mom".
I'm surprised he didn't list the other category that's usually listed with 'helicopters': drill sergeants. That tends to be me. I'm always catching myself with a "because I said so" attitude.
I'll sign up for the drill sargeant! Honestly, I'm in the middle but lean toward helicopter in some ways...not in others. Oh wait..that's what middle means, right? LOL. It really depends on the kid, the kid's age and the what. Okay...geesh..middle..I get it.
Hubby would say I'm a helicopter parent; while my parents think I'm free-range. Guess that means I'm in the middle
I'm me. That's all I can say. I parent the way I think is best and since I'm not interested in labeling myself a helicopter or Free Range, I'll just say I'm me. LOL.
Drill Sergeant! Yup! "Because I said so" was good enough when I was a kid, and it's good enough now!! (LOL)
I'm a helicopter at the moment, but don't I have to be when my kids are preschoolers?? I'm sure there would be bodily injury if I weren't hovering, lol.
