An older lady at our church makes these for Christmas and they are very good and make a nice gift. Sugar coated peanuts One cup white sugar one half cup water two cups shelled raw peanuts mix water and sugar in a large size sauce pan over medium heat until sugar disolves. Add peanuts and stir over medium heat until peanuts are coated and no syrup is left. Pour mixture onto an ungreased cookie sheet, spread out with a fork and bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. Stir every ten minutes. Let cool and store in an air tight container. I use a shallow cake pan instead of a cookie sheet and it makes stirring easier. My cookie sheets don't have sides. These need to cool before you eat them. The peanuts not crunchy until they cool. I buy the peanuts at Walmart for $2.12 a bag. One bag makes one and a half batches. We have made three batches today and everyone here loves them. When we have our church bazaar these go like hotcakes. They make great gifts for Sunday School teachers too.
I sooooo like this recipe! It is a frugal idea. I can do this at home instead of paying the inflated price for the sweet ones in the cans. Thank You.
Thanks Beth! I'm going to have to try this! When you have your church bazaar, you sell these? How do you bag them, and how much do you sell them for? I'm keeping my eyes open for fund-raising ideas is why I'm asking...
The lady who shared the recipe, Mrs. Martin, is the one who sells them. She didn't have them this year because she was selling a cookbook she wrote instead. I think she sold them the year before for $3.00 a bag. She had about a cup of peanuts in small ziplock bags. They are so good!
Beth, thanks for the recipe they sound wonderful and something I think my family would love. Can't wait to make them.
Thanks for sharing this recipe! DD would love these....but she is wearing braces.....so more for me!!
Beth, WOW!!!! I just got done making 4 pounds of these awesome peanuts. I know that they are going to be a hit in my family. I couldn't fine the shell-less, so I left the shells on them and they are wonderful. I can't stop eating them. I found a site that I can buy them bulk (50#'s for $65. plus shipping) that is way less than what Walmart has them for. I'm going to order them and make these year round. Thanks again for the recipe. They are so easy and great.
Shirley, Do you mean you left the skin on the peanuts or the actual shell? Freddy is betting you mean the skin. If that is right then you bought the right thing. The shell is what we call the part you crack off and throw away. I love these things and have been making them for gifts as well as what we eat. Glad you like them. Beth
LOL!!! You all can have a laugh at my expense. I think I am loosing my mind. I looked and looked for the skinless and then came home and tried to take the skins off!!! LOL. I thought well, I will try and make them with the skins on and see how they taste. Now you know that I am loosing my mind. Shhh, don't tell anyone else My dh can't stop eating them. Thanks again Beth.
Shirley, I have to be honest. When I read the first post we laughed so hard we cried. The idea of someone eating the shells with a sugar coating was just too funny. I am so glad you like these. I found some cute bags at Walmart today and am going to make some more to fix for some friends at church. Have fun making them and say hello to Don and the kids. Beth
I will try these this week, I just finished making my 2 batch of sugar coated pecans, which dissapears really fast, my family would love these!
I have had the pecans once and they are wonderful too. I don't make them for us because Freddy is allergic to pecans and the kids don't like them. Thankfully I am not allergic because I love pecan pie. I am allergic to cashews. What a family!
Thanks for sharing this! We eat a lot of nuts around my house and we tend to have a sweet tooth as well.
